Accepted into Penn and wants to visit

Today, I found out I was accepted into UPenn and I REALLY want to visit the campus to get a better feel for it and make an educated decision (there are two other schools I am highly considering that are also very respectable, but not Ivys. I like these other schools more based on location). Unfortunately, my parents do not have a lot of money (I already planned another trip before finding out the unexpected news), and I don't think we can afford flying out to Pennsylvania.

Yes, I do know I can take a "virtual tour" of the university, but it just isn't the same.

I'm pretty sure that based on my financial circumstance (which the school knows of based on my tax returns), I would qualify for financial help IF the school offered free flights to the school (which I know other Ivy leagues do).

Basically, what I want to know is: Does Penn offer free flights to admitted applicants to visit their school?

Are you a minority? They sometimes offer free lifts to Multicultural Scholar’s Weekend.

Yes, I am a minority and was invited to that event.

Definitely look into that. I wasn’t offered anything, and only found out that some people were reimbursed for travel when I arrived there.

Contact the office and see what they say. If they are willing to give you some cash, then DEFINITELY come! Last year’s weekend cemented my desire to go to Penn.

contact the office. i doubt it though…

When you say that you like the other schools more based on location, are you referring to their geographic proximity to you? (Going to college within a city is a major benefit, although the unique thing about Penn is that you don’t feel like you’re in a city when you’re on campus).

If you have already received a financial aid award, Penn will assist you.

As a previous poster said, I believe a number of minority students are invited to some diversity weekend or the like with free plane tickets. Follow up on that invite and ask. If it doesn’t work out, you can always ask Penn’s FA office if they’d be willing to pay for you.
