Accepted last year, did not attend, now looking to transfer

If one had applied and been accepted to the class of 2014 last year, but chose to attend a different LAC, but now is looking to apply to Amherst again as a transfer student, would one be at an advantage in the applicant pool? The applicant does stand out in that one of the coaches put in a good word for them when they were admitted the first time around. Any help would be appreciated!

Were you an athletic recruit and just turned down Amherst to go to a different school? If that is the case, I’d contact the Amherst coach and explain that you made a mistake and chose the wrong school, both athletically and academically. And ask if he/she would be interested in you transferring to Amherst.

It has happened before at least once that I know of. The coach took the athlete as a transfer. The athlete was extremely happy and loved the time at Amherst. The athlete graduated a few years ago after completing 3 wonderful years at Amherst.
