Im a senior in HS and I got accepted to pitt back in november, when I was in Calc I. I was signed up for Calc II when I applied, so it was on my transcript and application. Calc I really got the best of me, and im really a top student but it really brought my gpa down each marking period. I really do enjoy math but calc is HARD! I know it really will prepare me for taking in college but I just dont even care anymore, I put in too much work and didnt get the results I wanted.

Do you think Pitt would mind if I drop Calc II from my next semester scheduale?

Dropping a class doesn’t look great, but a bad grade (C or D) in that class can look worse. My advice? Call the admissions office and ask them directly. They will be honest with you, and they won’t penalize you for calling and asking.

Honestly, you probably have plenty of math credits to graduate and Pitt likely won’t even realize that you dropped it. Why don’t you try to talk to your hs guidance counselor first? Also, I think OAFA has heard this question before and you could probably call and ask it without even identifying yourself.

I doubt that taking the calc 2 was the reason for your admission, so I doubt that dropping it would be an issue IF you can get a first semester grade for it and then just have some other class second semester. I would never drop it if it will appear as a “drop-fail” grade.

Do you intend to major in math or engineering, or anything like that? If not, I wouldn’t hesitate to drop Calc II. Most entering Pitt freshman haven’t even had calculus at all, I would guess.
