Accepted---Now What???

I was accepted to UPitt’s Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. I am super excited to call this university a probable home for next fall! I was wondering about what happens after. About tuition, and other such paperwork prior to attending.

If you are ready to commit, you need to pay the tuition deposit. See here: https://oafa.pitt.edu/pay-your-tuition-deposit/

I believe you’ll receive additional information regarding the next steps after the deposit is paid.

If you need any financial aid or federal student loans, then the FAFSA needs to be filed as soon as possible after January first. It is ok to estimate income from 2015 paystubs and then go in after taxes are filed and update the information. But your parents and you (if you had work income) need to do your taxes asap this year.

Assets if required to list, have to be reported as of the day FAFSA is filed.

After you submit the FAFSA, if you are a PA student then there will be a link to the PHEAA form, the online PA grant application. There is one signature paper I think that needs to be printed and mailed in.

FA deadline is March 1 I believe.

You might try and run the net price calculator on Pitt’s website to get an estimate of what it might cost for you to go there.

In April you receive a financial aid letter explaining costs and possible aid you qualify for.

You have until May 1 to make your decision and pay your tuition deposit ($300) A few weeks after you pay tuition deposit you will receive a housing packet in the mail. You need to pay your housing deposit by a specified date to get guaranteed freshman housing on campus. It’s $325. You also pick housing preferences and a meal plan.

You will get a Pitt email address and you will need to schedule your Pittstart dates in the summer. Pittstart is when you meet with an advisor of your school and schedule fall semester classes.

Your high school will need to send your final transcript to Pitt when you graduate and you will need to send a copy of your immunization record to Student Health Service.

First semester bills will come out sometime in July or later, depending on your Pittstart date. They are due about a month later. There are payment plans offered. You will need to specify an account for possible refunds and add your parent as an authorized payer.

If you want loans you will need to accept them in your student portal and I think you have to do entrance counseling and sign a master promissory note (MPN).

Books students usually buy during orientation week, they move in about a week before classes start. Some books you can buy used or online, or in the book store on campus.

There is lots of helpful info on the Pitt website
