Accepted Schools of Business--Advice Needed

Hi all,

I’ve recently heard back a lot of good news, and it’s been rather stressful to sort through. I am looking for advice on what people believe is a logical way to proceed in my situation. Essentially, I am looking for a school that can put me in the best position to succeed within the financial services industry. More specifically, I would imagine the biggest factors here are alumni networks, internship opportunities, and job/salary placement. So, evaluating this, what are your guys’ thoughts on the following programs?

U Michigan - Ross.
UVA - Possibility to apply to McIntire junior year
Notre Dame - Mendoza
USC - Marshall
Emory - Goizueta

Right now, I’m leaning towards U Michigan Ross as being the best fit for my overall objective. Thoughts?

Thank you so much!

Assuming they are all affordable, they are all fine choices. I’d have a definite preference for a school where you have a direct admit to the b-school (all but UVA?) and after that decide which environment you like best.

@happy1 , yes, all affordable choices for me and obviously each program is more than okay. That being said, I need to narrow down my choices. I feel as though Ross would put me in the best spot to succeed in the objective I summarized above, but I’m looking to hear other thoughts. To note, I am accepted to b-schools listed with exception to UVA since i don’t think they have the pre-business path for high school admits

So you’re not a direct admit to UVA’s business school but you ARE a direct admit to all the other business schools? Just wanted to clarify.

All good choices! How do you like SoCal vs Georgia? Where do you see yourself settling afterward?

For financial service industry, UM Ross and UVA McIntire tend to do better than the other three. Between Ross and McIntire, they are equally strong. Google the names of the two schools along with “destination report,” you can see that their placement outcomes are virtually the same.

Some may say Ross has a bigger name, but I think it is more due to its larger size. The opportunity on a per student basis is actually the same as McIntire.

Visit both schools and see which you fit/like better. I think this should be the deciding factor.

But if OP is not a direct admit to McIntire but still has all these other phenomenal options, I can’t really see the benefit of going to UVA, and then possibly not making it into their b-school!

Wow, congrats! With an admin to Ross, not sure I’d roll the dice at UVA.

Thanks––still siding with Ross. Not preadmitted to McIntire as I wasn’t sure if they did that in app process, but I guess I missed that opportunity if it exists.

I agree, I would not take the chance at UVa with the other direct admits. Other than that, I think they are pretty evenly matched. I’d really focus on which school has what you want (ex. big time sports, Greek Life, weather, size of school etc.) because people tend to do their best when they are happy.

And FWIW McIntire does not have pre-admits so you didn’t miss anything.

Also FWIW, I have one son that graduated Ross and is now an Analyst for an International Bank in Manhatten. I have a second son in his Soph yr at Ross and thriving. With the new Ross Building addition, the facilities are astounding. And beyond Ross, the school offerings and school spirit are outstanding.

Our family had no prior Michigan connection but it has worked out very well.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Planning a visit to Ross in March for their Campus Day
