Hi, just got back a bit ago from HWS Open House for Accepted Students. It rained alot but that did not dampen anyone's spirits. The campus was so well kept and the adcoms were very friendly. My son and I got there around 9:30 and signed in. Soon we were led to the audit. where the president and provost spoke...very nice and warm. It was definately a full house. The group was then split into groups and very easily led out on our way to the gym where tables were set up along the perimeter of it to include all disciplines and interests of incoming students. My son and I found all of the professors very open and friendly. We were then split off from our children and parents were taken to comstock to have a luncheon and students were taken to Scandling where they ate lunch with other students. My son enjoyed the lunch but said he just wasn't used to so many people trying to get their lunch at one time. We spoke of this later and agreed this is very typical. Our morning ended around 12:45 when we were rejoined by our students and if we chose were taken on tours. We had done this before so we left at that time. It was a great day and son really enjoyed his time there. The staff went out of their way to make our short stay a happy one. We were glad we went.
VA - never got a chance to go to Scandling...sorry
Cheers to all...

That is great that you and your son had a wonderful time despite the rain! I helped out at the lunch session, and I talked to two girls who were deciding between HWS and another school.

cz - what was your overall impression of the accepted students opinion of HWS?

I only talked to about four students, but they all seem to have really liked it, despite the weather. Also, they said that admissions ran it smoothly considering there were over 500 students visiting.

Rubyred, is your son's name Ryan by chance? I have a feeling I might have met him.

We were unable to attend on Saturday but I appreciate hearing from others on the event. Did it sway anyones thoughts on HWS?

At the parent lunch, I sat with 7 other moms. It was interesting to hear the discussions. The majority said that their child was very interested in HWS and would most likely attend. We are still on the fence and my DH said tomorrow is "D" Day..... tonight will be discussion night.... Other colleges the students in question were looking at were St. Lawrence, Colgate, Syracuse, UVM, St John Fisher, SUNY schools, Clarkson, mostly eastern schools.
Now son is worried he will have TOO MANY options at HWS! Ha....kids.....

That's funny that you mention that because my friends and I were talking about that the other day at dinner. For small LAC HWS has a club for EVERYONE, and I think that really shows how diverse the study body's interests are here. Also, there are a lot of other options, such as doing alternative spring break (in april there were three different places you could go), and during winter and at the end of this term, they are taking about ten students and going to help out with the Katrina relief.
