My D applies ED1 this year after we both attended a “Shadow Day”. That was our second visit. The first was exactly a year ago when we took atour during Spring Break. On Shadow Day, my D followed 2-4 girls from 8AM to 3PM doing what ever they did. She attended 2 classes (apparently on Mondays, there were few classes) had lunch, went to a Yoga class, and hung out at the dorm (one of the Rockies). She told me that she thought the classes were surprisingly interesting, even the Russian history class which she thought she would hate. Yoga was lots of fun. While she was shadowing, I along with the other parents had a tour, lunch, and could attend a class. I attended an introductory Calculus class since it was a subject that I knew something about. The professor was really fantastic. She explained everything well, took what ever questions were asked and explained with great patience. SHe knew every student’s name. Although the subject was admittedly not the most interesting one for the students, they did participate and did so assertedly. At my lunch, a Biology professor spoke, and she too was great. Her picture is in most of the printed materials on on the web page, certainly on the Biology department’s page. That shadow day visit sold MHC for my D. She is the only kid in her senior New York City prep school class of 140 who applied to an all girl’s school. And she did so because she loved the feel of the campus including the students, professors, and buildings. She does like boys, by the way. When I went to my college in 1974, I went there sight unseen. So don’t fret if you can’t afford the time or money to visit. My D was accepted ED1, and now has quite a few T-shirts that she wears proudly, and cannot wait until September comes.
