We just returned from an open house/accepted students' day for the Paul School of Business and were very impressed. The business school has a new, state-of-the-art building with smart classrooms and nice, bright common areas. The people were very friendly and helpful-- from the students, to the professors, to the cafeteria staff. (Oh, and as a hockey player, my S loved the ice rink.). It is really a lovely campus. He has been accepted by colleges that are perhaps higher in the rankings, but I have to say I could see him really being happy at UNH.

We were also very impressed last year at the Accepted Student Day for Business Majors and my son made the decision to attend. The building you saw just barely opened. The kids were moved in only a few weeks ago - way behind schedule, but I think that is pretty normal. We were a little concerned, because of the size of the school and the program, but we’ve found that the business school watches out for its students pretty well, in terms of schedules, classes, etc. My son took two extra 1 credit classes required by the WSBE program, one which spent a fair amount of time on time management, and the other on using MS programs. He has also already worked on group projects, been giving oral presentations and spent a fair amount of time studying current events (WSJ required reading). We were a little disappointed that Intro to Business was basically an online class, you watched the lectures online and were allowed to attend one classroom lecture during the semester - but that was definitely the only time he will encounter that - it was also one of those tough “weed out” classes that probably discouraged a fair amount of kids from staying business majors.

All in all he seems very pleased, and happy to be there. He is kind of a quiet low-key kid and is very happy to be a resident of the chem free dorm on campus, where he has made lots of friends. It has a very pleasant atmosphere and there are always kids in the lounge playing games and hanging out. We’ve heard horror stories of the 10 story all freshman dorm, but there are probably lots of kids that enjoy that kind of thing. If your son isn’t one of them, there are quite a few smaller dorms that have more low key atmospheres.

If you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them (with help from my son if needed).

Thanks for your response, tozubri. Sounds like your S is happy with his decision to attend UNH. We have been making our rounds of accepted students’ days and UNH is still in the mix (our last one is 4/15–then decision time). If we have some questions as decision time nears, I’ll be sure to PM you–thank you.
