what do you plan on doing after hotel school? Im trying to decide between the Hotel School and Johns Hopkins, both of which I have been admitted to as of now. Also, what do you do outside of class (ie. shows, sports, music events) or what is available for students around cornell and ithaca? thanks

hotel school takes a special type of person. If you would like to go into the science field (Johns Hopkins sounds like it), you will not enjoy being in the Hotel School. Hotel school is very practical-business oriented, and there are MANY required courses. The pros are that if you want to go into the hospitality/business field, Cornell hotel school gives you a great network. Ithaca is beautiful, and hotel school students generally do internships off-campus. Are you aware of the 800 hours practical training credit for graduation and the management training program at the hotel school? If not, definitely check them out at hotelschool.cornell.edu.

By the way Johns Hopkins is also a great school. It all depends on what you want to do. And don’t forget that transferring from Hotel school to other colleges at cornell is fairly easy as long as you have a valid reason and okay academic standing. If you decided hotel school is not for you after the fist year, transferring to CAS is always possible.

@lacrolfer -
Congrats! While Johns Hopskins is a great school as hansyuwiwb mentioned, I obviously love the Hotel School haha! I am currently not sure what I want to do after graduation - definately something within the hospitality industry but exactly what I’m not sure. I have learned so much just being a here a year, and I have expanded my interests. I went into it wanting to run my own hotel someday, and while I may end up doing that, I’m going to explore some other options.

To be honest, while Ithaca is a pretty nice place, it’s somewhat boring. I pretty much only leave campus to go to the mall every few weeks. But there is PLENTY to do on campus. I went Greek so I’m pretty involved with my house and doing random fun stuff. We also get some good concerts - Lupe Fiasco is coming in two weeks! We had MIA, Phoenix, and Kid Cudi here last semester. Also Sam Adams and Nelly are coming in May! I am never bored here, and even if there’s “nothing” going on, we always manage to have a good time.
Good luck with your decision! Both are great schools!

Hotelies! I’m from CT :)
