Accepted students weekend, both parents or one?

I agree going to move in can be especially important if you haven’t seen the school before. If you want a couple of days with your student in the new surroundings I might suggest arriving a couple of days prior to official move in. You can pre shop at your local BB&B and have everything held for you at the BB&B in your students college town. I would leave the room organization up to your student. They are going to need to know where everything is and it’s often a bonding time for the new roommates. My sons school made it clear via the schedule parents were expected to leave on move in day by 4pm. I think we left about 3pm. We’d helped with everything DS needed and we simply had a goodby hanging over our heads.

Accepted Student Day will likely have college arranged pickups. So a parent is not needed. I’d be more likely to suggest a parent in situations where the family is grappling with the decision due to costs, fit, etc. In some cases you can even follow advise of a coworker - watch the way they walk around campus, they will seem more relaxed at the right place.

Zero parents.

Colleges started having activities for parents on accepted student days to get them out of their student’s way while the college did things with the students. In no way does either parent NEED to go. While we did drive them to ones in driving distance, DD went on the airplane flights by herself. We never dragged younger kids to the older ones college acceptance events. We let that be a special one on one time for the college student.

One parent. All that is needed. Especially when it is complicated to bring both. Only bring two if the parents really both want to see the school and its easy to pull off.

For SecondToGo we had one parent involved in accepted student days in two variations … for local school I dropped him off and picked him up at the end of the day … for schools further away I got him there, are breakfast with him, watched him disappear, hung out for the day, found him at the end of the day, got him home.
