Accepted Students Weekend?

I was wondering if Rochester had some sort of accepted students weekend or day. If so, what are the dates? Please also describe what students do when they visit.

Rochester has 7 spring open campus days for admitted students to visit.
April 7, 11, 14, 16, 19, 21 and 25.

For details and to make reservations:

<a href="http://enrollment.rochester.edu/admissions/soc/%5B/url%5D">http://enrollment.rochester.edu/admissions/soc/</a></p>

Basically there seems to be a different emphasis for each visitation day.
April 7 is "Education Day" while April 14 is "Political Science Day".

Events include dorm tours, a dean's reception, city tour, campus tour, a chance to talk w/ an departmental advisor and a Q & A with a panel of current students. Classroom visits can also be arranged.

Don't worry too much about the different emphasis on those days, though. My d went to the Science/Pre-Med day; she's about as far from a pre-med as one can get! She still got a good sense of the school.

Overnights can also be arranged in conjunction with the Spring Open Campus. My d did an overnight that night and went to classes the following day.

This visit really sealed the deal for my D last spring. Here is a tip for those of you considering such a visit this year: check out both the dorm and meal plan options with an eye towards both freshman and sophomore years. These are changing, perhaps unfavorably.

Brainsprain, care to elaborate?? What is happening to the dorm/meal plan? I read on another post somewhere that the food isn't the greatest.

<a href="http://media.www.campustimes.org/media/storage/paper371/news/2008/03/06/News/Meal-Plan.Stirs.Action-3255919.shtml%5B/url%5D">http://media.www.campustimes.org/media/storage/paper371/news/2008/03/06/News/Meal-Plan.Stirs.Action-3255919.shtml</a></p>

On paper, a two year requirement:
Contract Information : Residential Life

However, in past years overenrollment has permitted sophomores to live off-campus. With the new dormitory being built across the river, this is no longer an option under the language of the contract unless the student is living at home, has documented medical reasons, etc.

visiting is no big deal. the tours are so lame. the tour guide will tell you all the good things about campus and none of the bad. so you will be just wasting your time listening to crap. I always felt bad for the visiting kids and parents when I walk by them on campus. Sometimes, I feel compelled to go over there and start telling them the truth about Rochester.

The only time you should spend money and time visiting is those programs where there will be other kids visiting for the weekend. I visited MVP weekend and I met a lot of people who I still talk to. MVP is in April and it stands for Multi Cultural Visitation Program and it's for admitted students.

brainsprain, we've been told that if this year's freshmen request to live off campus, that request will likely be granted, due to the overenrollment of this year's sophomore and freshman classes. Even with the Riverview Apartments, there still isn't enough dorm space.

Soyeah, What is the "truth about Rochester"?

I know that some time has passed since I last posted to this thread, but I wanted to share some additional information and perspective for those of you considering UR for next year.

My d requested a waiver from the housing contract which requires her to live on campus for both freshman and sophomore years. She was initially denied, and subsequently appealed that decision. Yesterday, she was granted the waiver.

While housing and meal plan issues probably may not be as important for the typical UR student, particularly first-year students, if they are important to you, as they are for my d, then you are not alone. If and when you visit, don't feel that your preferences and needs should go unexpressed, or that the representative of Res. Life. haven't dealt with them before.

Best wishes to all of the accepted students and future members of the class of 2012!
