Accepted students!

I got accepted too for their comp forensics program (:

I cannot waitt until I get the acceptance packet! hahah

Congrats to you all. However, I would caution you to read over my report found in the "college visit" forum for RIT. Also a copy of this visit report is found at the top of the RIT forum entitled, "Overview of our vist to RIT."

RIT is a very demanding, tough school. If you don't take it seriously, you won't do well and won't like it. Be aware of what you are getting into. On the flip side, with a lot of diligent work, you will get a first rate education. However, don 't get sucked into the LAN parties, WOW or any other distraction. Just a warning.

Acceptance package arrived today.

Taxguy- Thanks for your post.
I think (correctly or not) that engineering will be demanding everywhere. Any thoughts on that? I'd certainly like my son to succeed. Thanks.

I have read many of Taxguys posts. He is usually very insightful and has an excellent perspective on things.

Just to mention a few facts:

He did not go to RIT

None of his children went to RIT

As you will note on his vist report at the top of the forum, he visited the school in the Fall of 2004 (yes, 4-1/2 years ago). So, none of the students currently at the school were even there when he visited - all the current students were still in high school.

IMHO, I would not make any decisions based on what people on CC say or give their opinions too much weight. Another perspective to be considered, yes - but that is about it.

dadinator, yes, you are correct. I did view the school and interview both parents and professors several years ago. However, I would doubt that much has radically changed in the past for years, but it is possible.

As proof, there are other college forums ( such as students review) that post comments by students. Read them over. The key is to look at trends since you do get biased opinions going both ways.

Crazed, yes, engineering is tough in most places that I know, but RIT is much more than engineering. It has liberal arts, a school of imaging science, art,and even a minor in music among a plethora of other non engineering majors.

When I looked at the school several years ago, it generally required a very focused kind of kid in order to be successful. I guess things could have changed in the past few years especially with a new president. However, I would doubt that what I said here has changed much.

I got the acceptance in the mail yesterday. I applied Regular Decision on the February 1st deadline (the night it was due). Pleased with the quick response. I got in the Tom Golisano Computing college

Going to wait for all of my other decisions, but glad to have this option.

Taxguy- sent you an email.

I received my acceptance yesterday, to the international business program! =]

Got accepted today- industrial design!

I applied RD in late January and got my acceptance earlier this week.

Got accepted last Thursday through snail mail. Waiting on the scholarship decisions...

I was also accepted into Case Western Reserve University (quite the mouthful!) Not really sure which one I prefer!

Major is Computer Science. I feel like RIT might be better for CS but Case as a whole might be a better option? Oh well we'll wait and see...

just got in for IT.

is this school any good? is it as big of a nerd school as i think it is?

which is better, RIT or rutgers?

Does anyone know RIT's reputation both nationally and globally? While, of course, this is not the overriding decision in attending a school. However, it does play a part in deciding on a school.

How would RIT compare to a school such as University of Maryland -College Park? Is RIT's business program also respected (I believe I read that somewhere..?) I don't quite know what I wish to major, but I feel that it lies between technology or business (internationally). That's where I see myself.

It seems like a fun school. I'm visiting it at the end of March for the Accepted Student's Open House until I can make an assessment. Oh, and I love Hockey (I'm originally from Sweden! =D), which seems to be a big sport at RIT.

I'm asking, because I don't seem to be able to find much information on RIT. It seem to be a mysterious school in my eyes, where UMD is very well known everywhere. What really caught my eyes, too, was that RIT is opening a campus in Dubai--and not only are the Emirates (Especially Abu Dhabi!) fantastic, but is the center for business and technology. It would be really great to have the opportunity to study there as a Junior, or Senior. Does anyone know anything about that?

Any information about these question would be fantastic. And I read your post, Tax, and it was indeed helpful. Many thanks!

Accepted to Advertising and Public Relations! :)

I highly recommend RIT over the other schools you mention. RIT has the premier reputation amongst corporations in IT, engineering, printing/imaging science, photography, etc. Top employers give RIT millions of dollars of technology and actively recruit students from RIT for co-op jobs and employment. RIT grads are counted on for being ready day 1 to perform on the job because of the quality and relevance of their academic program and the fact that students are required to have multiple co-op jobs while there. The RIT students just stand out positively at the companies I have been.

The RIT student is career focused and commands a lot of respect when an employer is hiring. Other schools like Rensallaer and WPI have students that are more theory oriented than practical real world relevance that employers seek, demand, and compensate for!

I believe RIT's placement for the school within 3 months of graduation has been 100%. Finally, the RIT student makes some decent money during their co-op (they are not internship and not projects, they are fully comped full-time work assignments) that helps reduce cost of education.

My son just received his acceptance through the mail today in the Mechanical Engineering program. The myRIT's website still says Credentials Received...

He has been accepted to RIT and Clarkson so far and is waiting to hear back from University at Buffalo, University of Rochester, RPI, Binghamton University and Union.

We visited last summer and RIT seems nice. Not the most beautiful campus in the world but my son is excited about the co-op program.

RIT got back to me very early - sometime late January. I had applied in late December b/c I was going out of town.
Anyway, they sent me a whole folder with all the materials, and a 13K/year scholarship - amazing, since I am technically an international student.
The ChemE dep't just sent me a letter too. They both had an oval RIT bumper sticker included.

hello everyone
I've been accepted to RIT and I'm really like the co-op of it. But I'm also accepted to NYU-Poly which is also regarded as easy to find a job for its location in NYC. I applied for CS master. So which grad school do you suggest if my main point is to find a job?
Thanks!

Hey guys

I am international undergraduate engineering admitted student at RIT. I got a 12K scholarship and a $2400 on campus guarantee employment( as I had applied for aid). But that is not enough. Can anyone please tell me whether there are any more scholarships that I can apply to once I go there?

I would be really grateful if you could help.

Congo mate!!! Thats really nice that you got a 13K scholarship. Even I had applied in late Dec but they had taken my file out of consideration because I could only manage to show enough money for the first year. Then they again reconsidered and finally was accepted in February. But they had sent me a letter that said that international students do not get more than 12K...so I was wondering how come you managed to get it??
