haha yeah that will be me too. i'm from campbell, which is right next to san jose

yes we will freeze! i go to Carlmont, which is in San Carlos (near san mateo).

I am surprised, no one caught onto the joke I made in the profile I typed up. read it, political views?!?! c'mon i was funny!!!! :)

does anyone know this years Bates admissions stats? Anyone heard anything interesting about Bates admissions?

At the accepted students meet, we were informed that 28% was accepted out of 4,000. But that seems to be normal for Bates

well, i got accepted, but i'm also gonig to stay on the waitlist at middlebury - but as of now i'm a bates '10er. and by the way, what will our class be called? we can't have something cool like "oh-nine"... and "twenty ten" is clearly too long. oh well.

anyway, most likely i'll see you guys in a couple months - if i get accepted to midd i'll have some more thinking to do...

i decided today that i am for sure going to bates!!!! woo hoo for bates '10!

Ok my turn now.
Hello guys!

Name: Ramona
Location: Galati, Romania
Why Bates: I just want to be there with great teachers and students; hopefully, it will all suit me.
Possible major/academic interests: Maths and Econ, still considering my options anyway
Interests and hobbies: music, dancing, travelling, photography, sports, people
Favorite movies: Sweet November - the best, Pearl Harbor worked for me, Phone Booth and there might be some more
Favorite books: Crime and Punishment, Dostoyevski, Overload, Arthur Hailey, The Woman in White, Wilkie Collins, they are so very different in style, but who cares as long as I liked them
Music: R&B is in the lead; hmm 90s music - pretty good, the 80s don't sound that bad either. In fact, I am the kind who likes a little bit of this, a little bit of that depending on the mood; However, I am not that much into hard rock heavy metal stuff;
Political views: could say democrat, but I am not that tied to one party or political view
What you're looking forward to the least about Bates: the distance, too far away from home
What you're looking forward to the most about Bates: meeting you all, of course; a new experience out of which I hope I will get the most
Other comments: keep talking class of 2010; it mi help us get over the summer knowing each other much better

Hi everyone!

Ok I sense there might be sth wrong. You all stopped writing and I was thinking that maybe it is time we took to it again so that we get to know one another better.
First of all (you'll say I'm crazy) I want to correct one mistake I just noticed; there might be more but this one is getting on my nerves :) ("it mi help us" should, of course, stand for "might help us"). Believe me, I am not that much of a perfectionist usually so don't be scared.
Ok...now let's get down to some serious business, which is in fact some trivia I would like to share.
I am very, very friendly or at least I say so. I'd have to ask my friends, though, to have it confirmed. So obviously I can't wait to be there with you. Plus I've never been to the US, so again it's sth I am looking forward to.
I love to dance, to hang out with friends, some sleepovers, chatting, I don't know. We almost always end up playing cards, but luckily we never bet cause on some days it seems I could even lose a fortune. I am a TV series big fan and I rarely miss an episode. Unfortunately, we are way behind in this respect here at home. When Americans get the 3rd set of episodes, I can only enjoy the first one. But who cares anyway!
Sth else?...except for the fact that school is quite stressful these days, crammed with exams and testpapers, that's it for now.
I hope I'll have something to read next time I check the thread.

Say anything you want!!! As you can see I did. What if it may come out as boring. Everything works here among future classmates.

ok bye until later
Ramona

i love 90s music, and i watch Lost religiously. i'm also looking for fellow steelers fans. i love dance parties and plan on throwing them in my dorm room as much as possible. if anyone is up for a 90s music Lost steelers dance party club, im there. i run track, is anybody planning on running for bates? please be friends with me in college...seriously, im pretty awesome.

i don't run unless someone is chasing me, but i definately have a massive collection of nighties!

Hullo all. Debbie here. Like Reykjavic I got accepted at Bates but stayed on the waitlist for Middlebury just 'cause I wanted to see where that might lead me. Basic profile as follow:

Name: Debbie
Location: Hong Kong, China (Not Japan, as I have been asked numerous times...)
Why Bates: It was love at first sight... of the recruitment poster that is. I kid you not.
Possible major/academic interests: Political Science and History.
Interests and hobbies: Music, fanwanking about teevee shows and books, reading, good convos held over coffee.
Favorite books: The Namesake, The Rise and Fall of the Soviet Empire, Harry Potter series (just 'cause it's closely linked to my school life...), Bridget Jones' Diary.
Music: Anything but heavy metal and rap. R&B can be grating but I like John Legend.
Political views: I'm not sure, but I think I'm closer to the liberal side than anything else.
What you're looking forward to the least about Bates: The fact that it's kinda far away from everything.
What you're looking forward to the most about Bates: Snow. I have that classic 'I-grew-up-in-the-tropics-therefore-snow-is-novel' syndrome. starts packing for those bone-chilling winters
Other comments: I watch too much teevee. Veronica Mars anyone?

About the name for our class? Why not call outselves 'two ten', or would that be too lame?

Go Veronica Mars!! And Lost, and Grey's Anatomy... and I enjoy anything that will allow me to not study for my APs right now. :) Anyone else stressed out over APs? (I don't know why I'm even bothering lol... I'm already going to college!!) BTW Debbie, I'm from HK too. What school are you at?

I'm at Shatin College, the one that's supposedly so 'ghetto' just 'cause we are on a hill in the New Territories. You're from either HKIS or ICS I'm guessing.

I love Grey's Anatomy too! But I have a special fondness for all things UPN. I keed, I keed. It kept me sane through my GCSE exams.

I understand your need to procrastinate, trust me I do. I have to face the monster that is IB exams next Tuesday and I am utterly unmotivated. Any other fellow IB survivors here?

ooh man y0bb, i regretfully chose to do full IB...possibly the worst mistake of my senior year...ill be right there with you on tuesday. i actually have to finish all my CAS forms tonight, but im really missing the whole point of it all. i kind of hate IB and all those people that thought it was a good idea.

Yup, HKIS. I guess that we're the only 2 AP system schools in HK? I don't think that Shatin is ghetto, just... wayyyy out there. It's ok, we have a rep for being rich, irresponsible, cheating, druggies... but I'm nice, I swear! I know that your hockey team is beastly (and I mean that in the best way possible :)) from personal experience though... Good in your exams!

Beastly, eh? I'll pass that on to the hockey team. :D Have you been to official Bates accepted thread? It's like a ghost town around there...

Yup. I've been there. I check it quite often, just hoping there might be something new there, something interesting, something to discuss, but you're right. Most often there's nothing there. Maybe we should try to make it a little bit more active. I don't know, maybe populate it in a way.
Anyway, about your IB and AP's; we don't do these here in Romania, but I still have my baccalaureate to take at the end of June, plus the finals coming in the following two weeks. And although I didn't ask for it, I will have to do it since they are compulsory... can you see? we are too crammed to even get to enjoy our last few months at home.

Summer holiday where are you???

The problem might just be that it's the thread for INTERNATIONAL ACCEPTED students, and not all accepted students. Either way, it sucks. Maybe it'll get going in May...

yup. That was exactly what I thought. I was trying to find an excuse for the situation and I came up with the exact same thing. Probably in May, true... maybe when we start discussing housing options, potential roommates or choice of courses; who knows... I was wondering: US students have their own thread? why can't we all be on the same one then?
