I am an incoming freshman. I want to go to medical school and I feel like an easier way to get there is to major in Biology rather than BME. Classes are (relatively) less rigorous and the premed curriculum fits better with the major requirements. Is my logic valid and if so, how do I go about switching my major.
Congratulations on your acceptance, especially to Cockrell. Biology is a more flexible major than the BME in terms of requirements. On the other hand, you can major in whatever you want for medical school.

In that year, those who applied to medical school had a better success rate with BME than Biology.
You’ll also want to think about your fallback career if medical school does not happen. Which degree will be better for that.
To change your major before enrolling, call Admissions and ask the procedure. You can also discuss with an advisor at orientation but since you do everything at orientation with your college, I would try to do it before if possible.
My suggestion is to call admissions and see what they say. Some majors are easy to transfer into, some you transfer automatically, and some you have to apply all over again. This is something that you can talk to when you go with your advisor at orientation.
