@dunbar - Yes, I used the quotation marks and the parenthetical reference to make light of the situation. WUSTL is a great and academically rigorous school. I don’t feel like I’m better or more deserving than anyone, but people seem to use the term “overqualified” to describe those with good stats who might have been waitlisted. Yes, I was deferred from Yale EA, and would love more than anything to get in. I recognize that I’m not one of the 2400-scoring, Intel-winning virtuosos that are accepted everywhere. I’m just a kid does well in school and likes to be involved. I think that sometimes the tone of text over the internet can be misleading. I didn’t mean to offend anyone.

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification; hopefully we will both get into Yale. ;)

Make that three, please. Another Deferred SCEAer here. Yale enthusiasts uniting on a Penn thread, classic.

i was deferred from columbia :/

Yay for deferrees! Keep hope alive! One thing I try to remember to keep my hopes alive is that they very well could have denied me. I’m very lucky in that I can be reasonably confident of my admission to Penn. My school sends about 15 out of 110 kids there a year, and I’m one of the top three kids in my grade. Granted, many of them have Philly addresses and legacy status, but I’d be shocked if I didn’t get in (going on history from school, and my sort-of legacy status). I’d still trade it all for Yale though. :P

Moral of the story: We’ll all be fine.

^Damn, that’s awesome that Penn looks likely for you. No such close-to-guarantee for me on the 30th :/

My son is currently a senior in the Wharton School and was also waitlisted at Wash U and Cornell, but accepted at Wharton, Georgetown, UVA, Emory, William and Mary, Wake Forest, GW and Claremont McKenna. Twelve students from his high school applied to Wash U that year, 1 was accepted, 1 was denied and 10 were waitlisted. The college counselor jokingly renamed the school “Wait-list” U.
