would you mind pming me as well? and did you get it via mail or email? And what % of notifications are out do you think?
Judging from the size of the Facebook group I’d say about 1/2 of the incoming class of 2019 has been decided, but I may be wrong.
These are ED acceptances that are being discussed in this thread, not regular decision acceptances. Those will be released later this month.
ohhh… yeah… i thought the rd decision date was april 1st… no wonder!
but did you guys just get notified? or just feel like celebrating in feb?
congrats by the way!
Does Swat send early writes?
Swat does send some early writes. Also, they are finishing the committee process this week (results will still come out by April 1) so early writes should go out soonish?
@Bostonboy, what is an early write? is it a likely letter?
yes
@luv2sk8 Hey luv2sky8 and other possible readers!! I’ve been a silent speculator on college confidential for a long time, and all this time, I never felt a need to comment/start a new post, let alone create an account, as many previous posts provided a good enough answer for me each time. But for Swarthmore, it was different. Perhaps due to its small student body (maybe?), I was never fully satisfied with the information I got from Swarthmore forum, and finding stats for admitted students was probably the most difficult thing ever!!!
I guess what I’m trying to say is that for those who were admitted early round and who will be admitted in couple months should be more active for future Swatties!!! It really is hard to ignore the number of students who make their college decisions based on the information/feel they get off this site, and I think it is always good to attract brilliant students to a school I’ll be attending this fall. So here goes nothing!
I was admitted to Swarthmore ED1. For ED1, I was deliberating between Yale and Swarthmore - Yale was a high reach for me, and Swarthmore was more like a “regular-reach” if that’s a thing. (My school follows the Likely-Possible-Reach scale). But it’s not that my scores were “low” that made Swarthmore and Yale reaches for me. My school considers all the ivies and top three LACs reaches for all students, as you simply cannot predict your admissions result with these schools.
Before I go any further, lemme tell you a little bit about myself:
-
I go to one of these schools, and feel free to guess which one : St. Paul’s, Exeter, Groton, Deerfield, Lawrenceville
-
SAT: superscore: 2330 (reading 730, writing 800, math 800)
-
SAT IIs: math 2: 800, chem: 800, physics: 800, French: 680 (didn’t submit)
-
AP: zero! My school is so arrogant into thinking that all the courses offered here are at a college-level, and don’t name any courses AP. And most our students take like one or two AP tests only (and in my case, zero) and somehow still get into good schools.
-
GPA: I’m not going to write my gpa in terms of my school’s grading scale, as it will ruin the fun for (1), but I would say I am top 15% of my class. I know my gpa seems pretty low, but it is usually like this at competitive boarding schools

My brother goes to U.Chicago and loves it there, so I had to apply there early.
Yeah, so back to my point about choosing a right ED school for me… At first, I loved Princeton, like everyone at my school do. Then, I was into Harvard for awhile. But all of the sudden, I fell in love with Yale for some reason. So, half way through the summer, I thought I knew where I was applying to early. As you can probably tell by the trend of my school list, I wasn’t that into liberal arts schools at first.
But I chose Swarthmore at the end. I won’t get into details why, because if you are already here on this forum, it’s safe to assume that you love/value Swarthmore and liberal arts education in one way or another.
I was accepted to U.Chicago and Swarthmore, deferred then accepted to U.Michigan.
I know I wrapped up fast at the end, but I hope this helps! Feel free to ask me questions if you have any, and I’ll try to visit once or twice a week to see if other people have any questions for me. Thanks <3
@yayyyhoo, Congratulations! Could you share your thought about choosing a LAC instead of a big university? I’m still debating.
