Couldn’t find a thread, so decided to start one.
Do we know when decisions are going to be released?

Do we know when decisions are going to be released?
Has anyone received an early write from SWAT, or heard of anyone receiving them yet?
Nope. That’s why I’m here
2014:
Early Write: Unsure (The earliest a student received an early write was 10th-11th March)
RD Decisions: 29th March
2015:
Early Write: Unsure (The earliest that a student received an early write was 10th-11th March)
RD Decisions: 26th March
2016:
Early Write: Mailed on 9th March (Most received it by 13th - 14th March)
RD Decisions: 24th March
So we can guess RD decisions will come out during the last week of March, and most students should receive early writes between 10th March and 18th March. Do post here when you do!
Does anyone know the acceptance rate or how hard/competitive it is to get into Swat’s math program?
@voltthorn
Nope.
What are your stats?
Mine are:
Class Ranking: 1 out of 76
Unweighted GPA: 4.000
Weighted GPA: 5.2889
New SAT: 1410
ACT: 32
@Shabeezy Those are some good stats. Are you majoring in math as well?
Mine Are:
ACT: 33 (English 34, Math 36, Reading 29, Science 34), Superscore 34 (Reading 32)
SAT IIs: 800 Math II, 770 Chem, 770 Phy
Class Rank: School doesn’t rank, but top 10%.
Unweighted GPA: 3.92 (Assuming 6’s = 3.75 and 7’s = 4.0 in IB)
Weighted GPA: 4.83 (Assuming 6’s = 4.5 and 7’s = 5.0 in IB)
Didn’t take any APs.
IGCSE: 7A*s 2As
Everyone else, stats and major?
I’m undecided, but I put political science on my application.
@voltthorn
Do you guys know if an interview is a huge factor? I decided to apply to the school very late so I didn’t get the chance to request an interview.
@purelifewater I’m not sure how it works with Swarthmore, but typically interviews play a small role in your final decision. Interviews are used to learn more about you as a candidate and discover things that you’ve done that might not be on your application. It is also an opportunity for you to learn a little more about the school in consideration. At the end of the interview, the interviewer typically writes back to college with their thoughts about you. In my experience, these comments are generally positive.
A classmate of mine got into ED II to Swat without an interview. Don’t worry about not getting an interview, I’m sure most applicants don’t. I didn’t either.

If anyone on here has read the thread from 2008 “Warning” students, please DO NOT LISTEN OR CONSIDER IT SERIOUSLY. Reading that thread was hilarious to me because he was actually my alumni interviewer. Honestly, he just complained to me for about 3 hours; it was so painful. He told me that he double majored with 2 extremely difficult science majors. Now, who would put themselves through that misery? If you want to know more, message me… but trust me, do not feel freaked by his message.
Has anyone received an early write yet? Swarthmore usually starts sending them out around this time.
Nope. I’m an average applicant so no chance I get one though
@voltthorn
Question
What’s the deal about LAC grads making less money than university grads, even when the LAC is one of the best schools in the country, like Swarthmore. On Niche.com, I have been looking at the average salary 6 years after graduation for a lot of schools, and top LACS compare to average universities that anyone can get into, and top universities make considerably more.
Is this stuff accurate? Do top LACS have high level job recruitment or no?
remember that 6 years after graduation, an awful lot of Swat grads are in graduate school
@Shabeezy Just like @donnaleighg said, a major of Swat Undergrads attend top tier graduate school. According to Swarthmore’s website, 83% of the Class of 2016 plan to enroll in graduate or professional school within 5 years of graduation.
You can check this and other similar information here: http://www.swarthmore.edu/career-services/post-graduation-statistics
@Shabeezy Several issues that you raise. Is it accurate…as reported, yes. You have an issue about self reporting that favors those who wish to self promote or are actively engaged in chasing compensation.
The biggest issue as noted is that many of the grads from elite schools go on to graduate school. Those in Med school are still a handful of years away from their earnings period.
The last point I’d make is that none of the surveys measure happiness. I have been to a few Swarthmore events that were heavily attended by alums…and they seem a pretty content bunch. They seem to be happy with the options they’ve had.
OK…last, last point. As employment trends change in the future, it’s very possible that those who are making good salaries 6 years out of school now will struggle to maintain those incomes in the future. Globalization and automation will take more and more of the “better” salaries, and the skills honed at a LAC (I believe) will serve grads well in the future.
Just got an email saying decisions will be released March 17 at 7 PM EST, so 1 more week!
