Accepted to USC...but should I wait another year and go for better? Chance me, please

So I was recently accepted into USC this year, but I don't believe i'll be recieving any scholarships or much aid. I'm from Texas and even though it's private and the cost is over 30 grand, I don't plan on paying all that much...

Here's a bit about myself...
Current School: University of Houston
GPA: 4.0/4.0
Major: Business
Class: Will be a sophomore, so will apply for junior standing
HS records: 3.26/4.0 GPA
SAT: 1070/1600
^^^^Pretty sure HS record won't matter since i'll be applying for junior standing.^^^^

Either I can go to USC this coming semester, or wait another year and apply for scholarships and aim for the following schools...

NYU
USC
Berkeley
Virginia
MIT
UT-Austin
Michigan
Emory
BC
Cornell
UPenn

I've taken the following classes and have recieved these grades...
English 1-A
English 2-A
Intro. to sociology-A
Intro. to ethics-A
Geology-A
Calculus 1-A
Govt 1-A
Govt 2-A
History 1-A
History 2-A
Microeconomics-A
Macroeconomics-A
Art History-A

I plan to take these classes this upcoming semester in the fall...
Accounting 1-Financial
Accounting 2-Managerial
Calculus 2
Possibly another class that has to deal with finance (my concentration)

Then in the spring...
About 3-4 major classes (finance)

Thanks for taking the time to read this..and pleaseeee reply.

I'd just go to USC.

what is your major?

i mean, will it stay the same?

Yeah, i'll be a business major. I just don't wanna spend over 30 grand this fall when I could possibly have another shot next year...

Ivies dont offer aid unless your family makes next to nothing.

Well, besides Cornell, do I have a shot any of the other schools if I keep my GPA in the 3.7-4.0 range with great essays and decent EC's?

If they look at HS record, nope (IMO)

I think you should just stick with USC. Applying for a transfer any later than your junior year doesn't make a whole lot of sense IMO.

Also, USC is a really good school in general with a real nice location.

Not transfering after my junior year. I mean i'll be a sophomore this coming fall, so i'll have to apply for junior standing.

And if I can get into USC this year, shouldn't I have a shot at Berkeley, Virginia or NYU next year if I maintain my 4.0?

And also, if I can attend UT-Austin next year and only have to pay around 8 grand, is it really worth going to USC and paying over 30 grand?

YOur chances as an OOS for Haas school of Business at Berkeley are around 10%. The UC's are mandated by Calif law to accept Calif students first as transfer students.

Well, all that is true...but I need answers to these two questions, please...

1.) Is it worth spending over 30 grand at USC when I can go to UT-Austin for around 8 grand?

2.) If I choose not to go to USC this year, do I have a decent shot at NYU, Virginia, Cornell or Michigan? And just for the heck of it, how about MIT?

Thanks again!

You won't get into MIT.

My advice would be to take a look at the campus and location if you get the chance. You will most likely end up off campus, and it is the middle of downtown LA. Marshall is a very good school, but for that kind of money, I would think you would want the college to be a good fit as well. While College Confidential has been of great value in getting a general view of things, I am not sure if it would be a good idea to make such a big decision solely based on it.

Yeah, I just need to get some ideas. UT's McCombs business school is also a really good school, so I was thinking why not wait another year and go there for 20 grand less?

I would love to go to NYU for business (as many others would too) but i'm totally lost right now. As of now, i'm leaning towards staying in Texas one more year. It's not worth spending over 30 grand a year at USC...

Any more suggestions are welcome!

Better yet, what would YOU do?

Spend over or close to 30 grand at USC or around 8 grand at UT-Austin?

USC has a great business school, good location, and, from what I hear, an amazing alumni network. Sounds pretty sweet to me.

If you're looking for good aid packages and a generally cheap price you can probably cross NYU (I'm assuming Stern) off your list. However if your issue is more about spending 30k on a school you don't particularly like but you're willing to spend to go to one you do want, then go ahead.

It's not a matter of me liking USC or not. I've been to the campus since my cousin goes there and they do have an amazing business school. BUT, UT-Austin's business school is just as if not more "better." I don't mind going to either of those schools as i'm totally interested in both, it's just a matter of the huge amount of difference in money.

I mean think about it...

30 grand or 8 grand. Both amazing business schools.

Sorry for asking for so many suggestions, but one of those colleges will be my home for the next 3 years, lol.

I think that the other schools on your list will not benefit you in the long run more than USC will, so it would probably make more sense to keep trekking along the education path despite not going to your top choice. I can understand wanting the best possible school, but it seems that NYU and the others won't really do much more for you. Good Luck

i don't know where you're coming from financially. if i was in your situation, i would go to USC. it offers possibly the best alumni network, and in business that is especially important.

honestly, don't look at it as paying 30 grand or 8 grand. look at it as a valuable investment.

i will PM you. good luck!
