I got into USC Marshall School of Business as Business Administration major today! My coach has strong ties with the admissions office at USC as he used to compete there and he was able to find out my admissions status! After being wait-listed at UCLA and rejected at Northwestern this is such a relief! Good luck to everyone!

Quick run through of my stats:
Around a 3.7 UW 4.15W with 1st semester senior year grades (Strong upward trend)
31 ACT 30M/34E/31R/29S
700 Math II Sat II
STRONG EC's (Top 10 in state for hurdling in track in field both events)
USC hosts the MESA program at my school and my team of 6 won the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Invention Challenge Competition this year
Ranked 29/562 in my class
5 AP's taken including 3 senior year

Could potentially be recruited by USC's track and field team.

If you are a recruited athlete there is another set of NCAA rules that govern your recruitment. I suggest you limit personal information about yourself on an internet board.

First of all, if you’ve been accepted to USC Marshall but haven’t been recruited by now then you won’t be recruited. You’ll have to try out as a walk on (though I suppose in your case it would be a ‘run on’).

Second, GeorgiaGirl makes a very important point. Besides any potential recruited athlete violations you’ve also put your coach in a difficult spot by telling an internet board that he/she asked around for you. Not to mention airing the fact that someone in SC’s admissions office apparently took the less than professional attitude of sharing your admissions result with a stranger (Privacy Act violation?). Your information is more personal than you think. Just how many 3.7/31 - top 10 state (CA?) hurdler - USC Hosted JPL Challenge winners do you think applied to Marshall this year?

Go ahead and delete this thread if you think this information puts me in a jeopardized position. Apparently I can’t delete this thread myself. I highly doubt anybody would get in trouble for notifying someone of acceptance ONE day early…

And to clear this up: I HAVE NOT been contacted by any coach at USC or anyone in their athletic department for that matter. My coach DOES NOT work at USC, he simply used to run there. My blurb about possibly being recruited at USC is PURELY speculation / a bit of wishful thinking. Also, USC said they were releasing admissions decisions by April 1st and they are a private institution so I bet they can release any of their decisions whenever they want from point of application submission to April 1st.

Don’t worry about it Prodiggy…people are very nervous right now and a little jumpy and, frankly, I’m a little jealous you got word early. Also, with all the draconian sanctions slapped on USC by the NCAA COI, we’re all a little gun shy about anything to do with contact, coaches, etc. Congrats to you and I hope you make the team. FIGHT ON!!!

You’ve got it backwards amghpsa I think it’s great that the OP has gotten into Marshall. My issue is with the admissions office. The “hey it’s only a day” attitude doesn’t cut it, if it’s “only a day” then tell everyone. As a former business owner and manager I’m disappointed in the apparent lack of professionalism displayed by one or more members of the admissions staff. Whether you like it or not, rules and policies are in place for a reason, usually for the purpose of keeping outsiders from exerting undue pressure on people working in the office. How much more time would be lost if even 10% of the applicants thought they could get someone to do a little calling or snooping for them? What if a snooper got bad news, that they’d been rejected, how many applicants would then try to turn up the heat to change the decision, further distracting admissions from their workload?

Call it lawyer-ly or call it hard a**, but the admissions office screwed up. If I was in charge and read these posts I’d be on the warpath looking to find out who thought they were bigger and smarter than the process. When I found them - and I would find them - they’d have to explain why they should be allowed to keep their job,

Furthermore, given how the NCAA has treated USC the last couple of years I think it’s great that the OP isn’t being recruited. While I doubt that an early notification rises to an NCAA violation I’m sure AD Haden would prefer not to even have to entertain the possibility.

Oh my goodness I’m in the exact same situation as you!! Rejected from NU as well; hopefully I get into USC and might be able to see you all there haha
