I got my letter in the mail the other day in the mail it is post marked March 25 2010. Just curious, did anyone else get the SCP. You’ll know what it is if you got it. Also for those of you admitted for the Spring 2011 semester, what does your letter say verbatim?

Cashmoney123 you get admitted to the Fall if a space opens up. It’s unfortunate but due to the current state of the economy a lot of people who were admitted for the Fall semester cant afford it and will not be able to attend thus creating an open spot for you.

@cashmoney123 ~ D got moved up after following the advice given on CC. There are several here (go back and read their posts) who have been moved to Fall. She sent in her deposit immediately after being accepted and then went about making sure USC knew how thrilled she was to be a Trojan. USC was her top choice school and she was going to attend whether she was a Fall admit or Spring admit. She updated her Adcom with any new information (there was plenty since she had submitted her app before the Dec 1st deadline). She visited the campus (again) for Admitted Student Day and checked in with the department in which she’d been accepted. I believe she updated them with any new information she had as well, and politely stated that if they were making any adjustments (moving students from Spring to Fall) she would love to be considered for such a move. If you choose to do this, my advice (taken from this board by a mom who started with a different name wink) is to do it QUICKLY. She was moved to Fall the first week of May.

The best advice I can give you is to do your research. Go back and read all of the posts from those who went before you (relative to this topic, obviously) and don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you don’t feel comfortable asking on the board, send a private message to those you feel may be able to help you out. I have found most people on CC are here to help you out. They want to share their knowledge because they’ve been there before - either personally or through their kids. While I haven’t posted much, if you look back you’ll see that I’ve gone through USC admissions with three kids. I’m posting now because last year at this time was BRUTAL, and I really appreciated the advice being given on CC. I hope this helps and the best of luck to you!

sincerely appreciate your response… and i will no doubt begin pushing for a fall admit and talking to my regional admisson officer

@cashmoney123 Husband just corrected me. He believes our daughter got moved to Fall closer to the third week in May.

kaorji,
Thank you for the kind words. 'Just wanted you to know all of us are volunteers who feel part of the Trojan family and devote time each week to help students with information and to assist with those “bumps on the road”.

Students who apply to SC are high achievers and being a spring admit may be their first “bump in the road”. It is difficult to help them understand the time will go very quickly and this “bump” may become an opportunity.

Other colleges have waiting lists, some so long it is cruel. I read last year of students on lists with hundreds of names. At SC it may be a disappointment to be admitted for spring, but they are “IN”! Their place in January is waiting for them! As you have read on this board many would gladly change places with a spring admit.

When applying to graduate school it would be a fine topic, how a student coped with early disappointment and later went on to a highly successful college experience.

At the semester all students change classes. Nearly everyone in the class will be strangers. The new student center will offer all sorts of activities to meet other freshmen and make friends. Club sports are very popular. Community service groups always need help with projects.

Pete Carroll, the famous former coach at SC, had setbacks in his career. He used one setback as an opportunity to earn an advanced degree. Another time he wrote a book. He comments every challenge is an opportunity.

My D was a spring admit transfer into USC. It worked out well for her because her friends were still at USC, waiting for her and helped her with “the ropes” when she visited them in October, before she matriculated there in January. It worked well for her, tho she was mildly disappointed to have missed the fall frenzy. She’s now in her 3rd semester there and has no regrets.

She had loose ends to tie up and being a spring admit gave her more time to wrap things up before she transferred. It also allowed her to take courses and get a lot of general ed requirements out of the way, saving us quite a bit of $$$, for which we’re very grateful!
