Accepted Transfer Thread

what, really??? I thought we could get into Ram Village too. where did you want to be, ncsmooth?

In past years, junior transfers were almost always placed in Odum. I am sure there were a few that were able to get around that, but as a whole, junior transfers that want to live on campus get placed in Odum. This is one reason many transfers will go to Granville because they feel it is better than Odum.

Granville usually has a transfer floor or two if that is something you are interested in. Sometimes have all transfer on one floor can be helpful as everyone is new together, but not having any returning students on your floor might make it harder to get to know the others in the dorm.

Aside from Odum, I didn't really have a preference. Odum was pretty much a last resort for me. It just seems so isolated, and so far away from classes/center of campus. I can certainly, understand why people would opt for Granville; it's much more convenient.

I only need housing for the fall semester. Is that possible or do I have to pay for the entire school year?

what do you guys think you will do? i really want to live on campus because i have lived off of campus for my entire CC experience and i want the on-campus experience.

have any of you checked out granville?
is odum really that far away?

I'm definitely considering Ram Village (if I go to UNC). I don't know though. Being in one of the old historic dorms would be also pretty cool, but I'd want a single. I've had two years of sharing a room with people I've not necessarily liked. I don't need to do that again. Also, I make friends OK enough where I'm not too concerned about that. It'd also be nice to be close to Franklin St. However, in that case, I'd be far away from KF and the Dean Dome.

ok i went to campus today and checked out odum village... the location really isn't that great. it's a serious hike to north campus where most classes are and it is completely surrounded by construction.

if this is automatically where transfers are assigned... yikes!

^Exactly. It's kinda behind the hospital parking decks, and there's always construction going on around the hospital. It's easily a 10-15 minute walk to most of the classrooms. I'm going to call or visit housing again when I get a chance. There has to be a way to get another assignment.

I don't know much about the dorms, but my son lives about a mile off campus and rides a bike every day--he says that Chapel Hill is very bike friendly. If you all do end up in a dorm fairly far from classes, you might consider a bike.

Hey guys,

I won't really know anybody when I transfer to UNC so I figured I thought I'd start a facebook group. Here's the link if you are interested in joining!

UNC 2008 Transfer Students Group

I spoke with another person from housing yesterday and got a completely different response from the first lady I talked to. This guy said they have rooms available this year in Carmichael, Craige, Hinton James and Morrison Halls and that they plan to place all transfer students together. If you have a roommate preference they will honor that as well.

I'd much rather have those options than Odum, but I guess we'll know what's up soon enough. Good idea with the facebook group.

I'll be heading up to the housing office on Friday and I'll let you guys know what they say.

I'm hoping more people can join that group so no one will feel as if they're all alone on that first week of school.

wow, that's really different than what the original person said! i wonder where we will end up...

and i joined the group! it'll be great to talk with some other transfers!

I'm still waiting to hear from credit evaluator to see how if I need to take summer courses and whether I should be able to get into KF.

who did you call for the credit evaluation?

hey Sachmoney, im pretty much like u.
i wanna get into KF and waiting for credit evaluation.
hoping most of my 60cre can be accepted.

I emailed the person, it was unofficial. I'm not too concerned about my credits not getting approved. Do you need a certain number of credits before entering KF? I actually think I'd benefit from getting Sophomore status instead of Junior status...I mean I'd be young for my grade anyway, so It isn't like I'd be losing a year. Right now, I feel like I'm gaining a year compared to most of my peers.

I want to stay in North Campus. I had a friend last year who turned his housing application in late and got put in Mangum. South Campus sucks some of the rooms have no a/c and its so far from most of the classes.

i want to stay in north campus too! i don't know if that's going to happen though.

So far, I'm oscillating back and forth between UNC and UMich (doesn't it seem like a lot of people have to choose between the two?). The thing is the lady has to get me back about transfer credits and my chances for Kenan Flagler. That really determines my future at this very moment. I prefer UNC because of the beautiful campus, the weather, and some other factors, but at the same time, Michigan's Economics program is top ten in the country. That carries some weight too. I don't know what I'm going to do. May 1st is coming faster than ever!
