I've accepted both University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and University of Washington. I just emailed UW today, informing them that I don't want to attend.

Will I lose my admission at UIUC? How likely is this? Thanks :(

One side of me says that "Okay, I screwed up, they may remove my admission", but they also have my deposit, and they have another month to release waitlist info.

why did you accept both?

Because UW housing is competitive, and I thought you had to accept admission before you can apply for housing. Now how is that relevant?

It's because of people like you that people on the waitlist get screwed.

In other news, I think you did the right thing by informing UW and understand your justification for it. However, you had a long time to think about it and accepting two schools in the first place was wrong.

I suppose you could lose admission, but if they don't know I guess it won't be a problem.

Thanks for the on-topic reply. Yeah, I'm sorry about what I did, but there's no use apologizing over the internet. So, it's too late for colleges to send out a waitlist acceptance because of stupid people like me?

Why are you being so sarcastic? I said that I understood your justification but that it was still wrong. I'm not saying you're the worst person in the world -- I'm saying you made a bad decision but that you might not necessarily have your admission rescinded.

Why did you bother asking if you weren't going to anticipate negative reactions? You accepted two schools and may have taken away a spot from someone else. This is a college forum. People on here want to get into a college, sometimes get waitlisted and wait in agony before they are told they are accepted/rejected.

And if there's no use apologizing over the internet, why did you apologize anyways? No, it's not too late for a school to send out a waitlist acceptance, but not all schools CAN.

If you're going to be sarcastic and cynical, don't post. You're the one that made the bad decision -- not anyone else on here who is simply commenting on what you did.

Anyways, I don't think they will rescind your admission. My reply was perfectly on-topic. I answered your question. You're just upset that my response was negative and probably representative of what most other people would say.

Bro, this is a case of e-miscommunication. I wasn't trying to be sarcastic, and I feel guilty about the whole thing. There was a dude who replied off-topic twice (but his posts were deleted) so I was sincerely thanking you for being ontopic. Once again, I appreciate the lengthy post.

I'm a girl, by the way.

Anyways, have fun at Urbana. A lot of people from my school attend there. It's a very intense environment if you are entering into the engineering field.

I wouldn't worry about UIUC rescinding admission. Good luck.
