Congrats to your Sport Management acceptance! It truly is one of the best Sport Management programs in the country!

Too bad my parents wouldn't allow me to apply there...

Just curious...and a bit ot...but why wouldn't your parents let you apply to USC? Where ARE you applying instead?

I'm from the midwest, and they view South Carolina as "Hickville", and Nascarland. They also say it's too far from home, and don't feel they could have paid the OOS tuition, even though I probably would have been a McNair Scholar getting a 12,000 scholarship.

i got in!!!

That's funny to hear SC referred to as Hicksville and Nascarland. We're from the North East, and we've never referred to SC as such. In fact, we hold SC in highest regards, especially because of areas such as Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and etc.

Would like to hear from anyone who actually does live in SC, especially from the Aiken area. Was wondering what it's like to live there.

I live in Aiken. It's not too bad considering I hailed from the Northeast as well (PA/NJ border). At first, it was really difficult to adjust as it is a rather small town compared to what I was used to. But then now it's expanding like crazy - a multitude of new complexes are being built yearly.

Plus, Augusta, GA is just 30 minutes away :)

Spets - glad to hear you like it. We here in NJ had a brushing of snow, and ice....with the temps in the 30's. What was your weather like today (Tuesday, December 6th?)

High was 55, Low's prob around 35.

Sunny and clear - had my window down in the car.

S got his acceptance today also into Sports Management!Awaiting word on scholarship $ though hes apparently guaranteed something due to National Merit status. Can't wait to visit in the late winter/early spring.

Congrats cathymee! Best of luck to your son and his college plans, hope all goes well with Massachusetts.

Thanks A2Wolves.
Have you been able to discuss further with your parents applying anywhere except close to home?

No, it's looking bleak. Money is very scarce, and they want to feel comfortable. Been looking at scholarships everywhere. Ohio U has a gateway program i'm looking into. Bowling Green has decent money as well, but I don't think my heart could be there. Their reasoning towards me not applying to the NE was that the cost of living was too much there, and I won't be living in the dorms much there. It's hard, because I know i'm educating myself about colleges each day, and they are just being arrogant, but they're paying for the majority of it, so I don't have any leverage.

I'm in USC Honors (a freshman and a Carolina Scholar) and let me say that it honestly doesn't feel much different than regular USC. The only reminder that you are in the Honors college is if you live in Maxcy (the honors dorm). You can choose if and how many honors classes to take and you can decide how much time to devote to the Honors part of your education. If you don't get in now, apply your second semester. You can always keep applying until you get in. The big attractor for me was the money that I was given to attend. You can make your education as good or bad as you want at USC and you have to decide how to balance social life w/ academics. I took 3 honors classes and also pledged a fraternity. I made a 3.3. I could have made a 4.0 if I would have spent all of my time studying but balancing a good social life was more important to me and you can do that at USC while still taking hard classes and learning a lot which is why I love it.
