I received my acceptance letter today. Wondering if anyone knows when we get word from the scholarships.

Just curious....today is Sunday. We don't get mail here. Where exactly did you get your letter?

Daughter received an email from admissions rep last week just keeping her in the loop (and also her interest up I assume) informing her that all merit scholarships and Honors College apps are in the process of review right now. Said she was definitely in the running for something but obviously could not guarantee anything.

Apparently the process goes like this;Adcoms read honors college apps and rate/grade essays then send them on to profs who do the same. From what she was told, they are in the hands of profs right now. She also told her that scholarships will be announced over a period of time with McKissick scholarships (including in state tuition remission for those of us who are OOS) and other merit scholarships announced in three to four weeks (early to mid Feb) and Honors College and Capstone in early March.

It was a nice touch, and was the second email from adcom who also asked her to email or call with any questions or concerns.

Eadad, That sounds wonderful. I don't think my daughter has heard a word from anyone other than the postcards that have been sent. She has not really had any contact from any specific adcom there. But her stats fall short of their minimum (SAT 1250) by 20 points....so she probably isn't in the running for honors college (although class rank and GPA are high). Oh well...we shall see.

Sorry, I meant to say I received it on Saturday but didn't get a chance to open it until today. It is a simple, plain, unadorned letter that informs you of your acceptance.

A giftcard or some cash would've been nice, but hey, take what you get right? ;)

I'm confused,as your message seems to contradict EADad's information.Did you receive that letter about acceptance to the Honor's College specifically or the University in general?
Thanks for any additional insight!

cathymee

I believe spets was referring to admission to USC, not Honors program.

thumper1

I called admissions a while back regarding the Honors program (same boat here 1290 SAT) and was told that 1300 is a soft guideline but that a candidate that fell just short would not automatically be disqualifed from consideration. I was told that they would read all apps and essays and make determination from there, which is a bit more wholistic approach. If this is indeed the case (I can only go with what I was told) then at least our girls have a chance.

To clarify, this is admission to the Honors College.

I received my regular admission to USC two months ago.

Congratulations Spets!! My daughter is keeping her fingers crossed...even with her slightly deficient SAT scores. We'll see. Hopefully your notice means that all will hear soon enough. I noticed you are in SC...we are further away. Perhaps the US Postal Service Carrier Pigeon will arrive this week with news one way or another.

OK...here is what the postcard DD received said...

December 19- Honors College notification begins and continues into Feb 2006

Jan 31- McNair Scholars Finalists notified of their selection

Feb 20- Alumni Scholars and other general University Scholarships awarded

So...I guess we have some waiting to do...at least some of us.

Spets
Thanks for clarifying.
It's good to know someone has heard from the Honor's College! Congrats to you.Are you definitely attending?

My D received her notification of acceptance into the Honors College on Saturday. All this waiting is sure stressful!!!

Congrats to motherof4pearls D on her acceptance. Will she be attending...or are there still decisions to be made??

Thanks all. I'm about 90% sure I'm attending. Unless either Washington University or Emory help me out with the financial aspect of things. I didn't apply for merit scholarships for either one, so chances of that are slim to none.

S got the Honor's College letter today.Very nicely worded.Wish it had come together with some scholarship info though LOL!!

Yay Cathymee...congratulations to your son!! I'm not surprised. He would be a fabulous student for the real USC to have. I'm guessing that those of you who have heard already ARE in the line for some kind of scholarship monies. AND for the OOS group, that would mean instate tuition as well. Yay!!

cathymee

congrats. what state are you in?

waits for mcnair decision eeek.

McNair finalists were supposed to be notified today, January 31. Has anyone heard?

nope. i was thinking about calling to ask but dunno
