DD got a phone call today from a U of South Carolina student congratulating her on her acceptance. This is her first acceptance. She now will do the honors college/scholarship application so she can get it in the mail before the end of November (deadline is Dec 1 postmark).

See my post to you on the other board..and congrats to D! Hopefully S will hear soon,he filed Oct 25.
Send along the Scholarship app..you can send the reccs seperately..I called to confirm this..easier to meet the deadline this way as nothing else needs to go through your HS you can send it directly, they use the transcript and such from the college app.
Perhaps they'll meet down there..if they are called for an interview its on a certain Feb weekend and they pay for the transportation so maybe hold off on scheduling that music audition stuff..she can do it on the same weekend and save you $$ !!

Thumper... how long did it take for your daughters application to be reveiwed, and did they also send her a letter or did she get the phone call first. Has anyone else been accepted?

thumper:

Wonderful! Congratulations! I hope we are in the same position next year as you are this year!!!!!!

Sar...my daughter's application to U of South Carolina was complete by October 20th. She heard by phone first (from a student who called). The packet came in the mail two days later.

Congrats. I hope she has fun with that Honors/Scholarship App. A part of me died just doing it.

Spets...she will probably die over that 500-1000 word essay that has to be written in the next two days. And she really doesn't have starlight SAT scores (1230 on CR and Math...and the application says 1300 is what they consider). But her class rank (top 5%) and GPA 3.87 should help a little she hopes...and her geographic "diversity"....from New England.

I think she has an excellent chance at the Honors College, especially in light of what you pointed out: geographic location. I'm curious though, what prompted her interest in USC?

DD became interested in USC (the "real" USC) when we visited during the summer of 2004. My best friend from high school lives in Columbia, and we spent four days there on our way (sort of round about) to visit my son who was at the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro. We went to the university just because we were there and all of us left being quite impressed. It also helped that we just stopped into the music building and the music admissions person took well over an hour to chat with DD about opportunities for students who do not want to major in music but want to continue playing. This is a MUST for DD (an oboe/English horn player). So...she decided to apply. The school had all of her requirements...warm weather, the music thing, and good sciences (she will likely major in engineering). She loved the campus too.

Thumper....my d is a Carolina Girl! Congrats to your daugher.

DD completed her honors college/scholarship application yesterday and I will take it to the PO this morning...the deadline for postmarks. I have to say...her essay isn't the best I've ever read...it sort of rambles on. She points out the salient points, however (she chose the one about the life expectancy doubling) of social security, housing, medical care, numbers of senior voters, impact on the younger populace, etc. It's done, however, and that is that. I guess the worst thing that could happen is she does not get into the honors college...oh well.

I just got accepted today into the Sports Management program. My #1 college choice is San Diego State, followed by Arizona State and then South Carolina as my third. I'm actually in Texas, but I really enjoed the small-town feel of Columbia (hell where I live in Texas is probably bigger than Columbia) and it has an awesome work-out place.

mike..how long did it take for you to hear a decision im so anxious....

DD's application was complete on Oct 20. She got a phone call from a student congratulating her on her acceptance on November 16. Her packet came in the mail on the 19th.

Even if she does not manage to make it into the honors college (which is unlikely), you can still apply after the 1st semester of your freshman year.

I'm not too crazy about USC but I think it's probably where I'll be headed considering my apathy towards the application process in general in combination with financial convenience.

I think it was around 4 weeks. Not much longer...

Mike
S is waiting to hear from South Carolina..Sports Management as well.do you know its one of the 4 top ranked programs in that field?Congrats to you!
Older D is An ASU alum. They DO NOT have a Sports Management undergrad major. You have to major in business and try to arrange your own internships in a sports related area.

Hi Spets...Thanks for the vote of confidence. We'll see. Funny...you in SC aren't too excited about the real USC, but my daughter really likes it. I do think if she gets into the honors college that USC will become closer to the top of her list. She is still waiting to hear from two California schools where she applied EA...we'll see. But she would be happy at South Carolina.

is there anyway to check your status online?

Sar425....I am not sure about checking on line but you can call the office of admissions and they will tell you where your application is in the admissions process.
