My D acceptance came today! She is thrilled, they offered her a $20,000 scholarship too! Too many choices - so little time

Congratulations to your D!

My S was accepted also and it's one of his top choices. You are right about so little time! He is doing an overnight and the accepted students day on April 21st. Will your D be attending one?

No nicer city than Appleton.

beprepn, I think you meant this for Lawrence U, not St. Lawrence?

Blizzard - Congradulations to your S! Yes my D will be doing an overnight on the 19th and 20th and staying for open house on the 21st. We live in CA and travel takes a whole day with changing planes, time change and transportation to campus. How close to campus do you live?

We live about a 7 hour drive from there. The first visit was travelling through two snowstorms and so took 10 hours. According to my S and H, it was worth it because the area is beautiful and the campus is great. I am going along for this trip to see for myself. Are you flying into Ottawa and driving down?

My D is flying in by herself and the school arranging for transportation from the airport. I wish I was going...

does your son know any current students? what kind of reputation does St Lawrence have in your area? Do you know what housing options are more popular?

It has a very good reputation in our area, though not as popular as others due to its isolated location. One recently graduated teacher I worked with was effusive in her praise, especially in respect to the strong bonds that are formed among the students. I do not know about housing options.

I wanted to add that both my husband and I are legacies of SLU (30 yrs. -we meet there!) and our son was just accepted. Yes, SLU did create strong bonds between students back in my day. What amazes me most today, is that wherever we go, business or personal, a SLU connection rings loud, even if you were years apart and never met.

jelomom. You don't live in Ogdensburg do you?

No, we live in a suburb of Rochester.
I always chuckle at the discussions on how cold it gets in Canton (where SLU is) because when you live in the Northeast, cold is cold! My son also applied to U of Rochester and on that forum, kids are all concerned about the winter and cold here in Rochester. Hey, if you are applying to a school in this region of our country, embrass our lovely winters or be happy and warm and skip the schools in the Northeast.
Some of my favorite memories at SLU involve walking across campus on a cold morning, hearing the snow squeek beneath my feet. For me, it was such a peaceful rush. Funny the things we remember after 30 years.
