<p>caramel: I am not aware of how he knew, he posted something like "I was deferred bc of my low GPA." But I know at some universities you can call and ask them and they will give you the reason, so he may have done that.</p>

<p>as far as i have learnt gpa isnt that strong, atleast for the asian side, becuase mu school tends to follow a W shaped curve with marks, I got 78% in 9th and 93% in 10th...so im not sure what really does it...</p>

<p>My son got in last week, he was really excited but then found out George Washington Elliot school, the next day and is attending GWU. Michigan is an amazing school though also. Just for the record, he got in with a 3.1 GPA, not to imply that there are many who get in with a low GPA but it does happen, I believe though I am not certain that they take the holistic approach when reviewing an application and I guess in my sons case and in a few others, there were other factors that came into play and helped to make up/offset the low GPA.
