I was accepted, and i'm thrilled at the prospect of attending. However, I have to decide between wash u, Vanderbilt, emory, and northwestern (assuming I get into all of these, or any). I intend to major in economics. Any advice? Also, could I hear what any other econ majors at wash u have to say about wash u's econ program in comparison with these schools?

whoa nice. Good luck there!

I am also debating between Northwestern and Wash, if I get into Northwestern.
Advice would be cool!

I would choose Northwestern. Only because of Chicago, the gorgeous lakefront campus, the fact that their color is purple, and more of a ra-ra spirit.

Totally biased opinion.

Good luck!

I think Northwestern would have the best Economics department of the schools you listed above. (Hopes Emory and Wash U admissions people aren't looking at this post)

Not true - WashU has added some great profs to the econ department over the last few years. Look at a recent comparison and then make up your mind.

Vanderbilt, hands down. Best overall undergraduate experience (read: best social life and most attractive people) out of the 4. :)

Best way to do it. Once you have your final list - visit and then decide where you feel that you will be the most comfortable for the next 4 years of your life.

Congratulations, PatrFootball141. You must have had quite a convincing application. BTW, did you do a campus visit and interview?

Congratulations! I was waitlisted....

" Vanderbilt, hands down. Best overall undergraduate experience (read: best social life and most attractive people) out of the 4. "

I've heard the recently the level of overall attractiveness has been declining... But that's just what I've heard on the Vandy forum.
Great school though, I just wouldn't choose where I'm going based off that. Haha.

Yea I suggest Vanderbilt as well! (only because I am on the waitlist for Wash U hehe)

i got into washu (#2), but i'm waitin on pomona (#1!), and vandy (#5)

so i would take pomona over washu, but washu over vandy

what about numbers 3 and 4?

what about just engineering?
which school is better? wash u or nw?

NW is better at Engineering by far, except for Biomedical, which I think WashU would probably be better in.

@zfanatic -- #3 is emory, and #4 is duke :)

Wow, thanks everyone. I did not have an interview or visit the campus. In the end I think I'm going to visit those I get into and see where I fit in the best. Kind of like what ST2 said. I'm visiting wash u sometime in early April, I'm looking forward to it. As far as engineering, I think Vanderbilt may have the edge.

It's incredibly important that you do visit the campus once you get all your decisions in.
For example, I had never seriously considered WashU until I visited this past fall, and it only took a few hours to win me over (the happiness of the students, great food, generous financial aid options, etc.) These characteristics have all been repeated numerous times, but experiencing it is completely different.
Bottom line: Be sure to sit in on an Econ class when you go in April and talk to the professor after class.

Also, take note that some of the posters here were waitlisted or rejected from your listed colleges, so just take everything said with a grain of salt. :)

I would go with northwestern, because it's so near chicago and its campus is amazing...
