also, are only acceptance letters being sent out? or rejection/wait-listed letters as well?

MMM - As I’ve said earlier in this thread… when you applied has NO BEARING AT ALL as to when you will receive a decision.

Admits are going out first; everything else will follow later.

Chris

okay thank you! i guess ill just have to keep refreshing solar and keep my hopes up lol

sbuadmissions: SBU happens to be my first choice college. I’ve known I’ve wanted to go there since ninth grade. Some kids in my school have been receiving acceptances (approx 4) and I was wondering if applying through common app or solar makes a difference and also, are admittances being sent out still?

Chris, Can you comment on whether or not SB truly is a “commuter” school? DD has been accepted, and we are planning a visit. Academics look terrific, but I’m not sure a place that empties out on weekends will be right for her.

emily13 - Yes, we’re still sending out admits. We sent out a small batch two weeks ago, and we have another small batch ready to go. We’re working through them as quickly as we can; hang in there!

ctreel - Please visit. We do have a large commuter population – always have, and always will – but there’s still 300 clubs and activities, D-I sports, a huge arts center, etc. Actually, a poster who is a current student put it pretty well recently:

Chris

Hey everyone I just got my acceptance letter today! Props to Stony Brook admissions office for making such a creative envelope - I thought it was really neat.

Chris, I was wondering, if the times we got our admission letters didn’t depend on when we applied, what was the factor that decided who got their letter when?

And who else applied to the honors program?

And Chris, one more question:
Is there a limit on how many ap credits one can receive?

hey sbuadmissions and the rest of the forum i was wondering today i logged into my solar account and i saw a folder named For New Students and i was wondering if that means if i got accepted?

I had that, too. I got my acceptance letter two days later. Congrats! Click the new students folder to see if a deposits page is available to you, if so, you would seem to be in.

thanks evnstvn

Son accepted

2030 SAT 700 Math, 680 CR, 650 Writing

Also applied for Honors college, do we hear seperately about that?

I think Honors College and any scholarship offers come around the beginning of March.

Official acceptance on the website… awaiting the small batch of letters that Chris was talking about to be sent out.

My bro attends, so that might have had an impact. Unlike BINGHAMTON, at least SBU sends letters to in state as well as out of state students earlier.

Congrats guys… my current top school that I have been accepted to.

Accepted!
1770 SAT, 90 unweighted GPA, 8 APs + many many many leadership/extracirriculars
first generation student as well.

Can anyone tell me about being an undeclared major? Can you easily transfer into any major at stony brook? Can you declare a major prior to starting in the fall?

this may be a dumb question but…

when the new students tab comes up and being able to make a deposit means i was accepted right?

got my acceptance letter on friday! yayy!

@NYSpinnerDan - There were a lot of factors, but when you applied wasn’t one of them. It was just a matter of how quickly we got through the process. Each application takes time to complete.

@NYSpinnerDan - I believe the cap is 30 credits.

@borghugh - Yes, you’ll hear about HC and WISE hopefully early next month.

Congrats everyone!
