If you don’t mind me asking…are you a person of color? I think that’s what they might mean by “underrepresented.” Due to the events at UCSD over the past couple of months, this might be a new program they just started.

I didn’t get a call at all (much less an invite) and it’s really scaring me. UCSD is my first choice school. But, then again, I’m asain, so I’m not really “underrepresented” (; ahahahaha!

Oh nevermind about the gpa. I just read this article about the program:
[UCSD Announces Minority Enrollment Push - San Diego News Story - KGTV San Diego](http://www.10news.com/news/22825648/detail.html)
Apparently, this is supposed to be part of the healing process of the Compton Cookout event thing…but I’m not african american, latino, or native american! >< I’m asian!..maybe it’s because I my parents’ income is low. So weird…

Hmm well that doesn’t seem like that applies to me because I’m not African American, Latino or Native American. Nor do my parents really have a low income. But about this
is it still referring to this group of underrepresented students for the second step? Or is it simply regarding all its admits? Because Ms Sun called and told us they were “trying” to call everyone, but that article makes it seem like they’re just calling this group.

I don’t mean to be rude or intrusive but do any of you that got a call not necessarily fit into the aforementioned group of underrepresented students?

I know how everyone feels. I’ll be probably going to Irvine if I don’t get Cal or UCSD. Everyone thought I’d do better than that, I have 4.0 unweighted, 4.5 weighted and 31 on the ACT. This stinks.

Don’t discount Irvine too much. I know people that are extremely smart that got rejected by LA and SD that go there, and I don’t think less of them. At first I was thinking like you were, that it was a considerable “step down” from UCSD and LA. But the fact of the matter is that going to UCI isn’t going to make you less smart or look less smart. If you go there I wouldn’t doubt you’d be at the top of the class, which does look good. And your Grad School is more important than Undergrad School. Personally if I were to get accepted to UCSD, I’d still be leaning towards UCI for a few reasons, but I’d have to visit the campuses before deciding anything. Hopefully I have such a decision to make though. lol But with that being said, I don’t stress too much. A lot of what I said may not be exactly what you want to hear atm but things will work out. BTW do you fit into that group of “underrepresented/low income” students that are getting calls (from that article someone posted).

@Spacedog, we must both be haunting these boards while waiting for news, we keep running into each other. Thanks again, I know Irvine isn’t that bad, but I still don’t like the area (so much more pollution than SD). And UCSD I could live at home, so less money.
But no, I don’t fit in that underrepresented/low income group.
I do stand out for several reasons mentioned in my essays, I really hope they read the essays well, they were sort of tailored to USCD even though I sent the same one everywhere.

Yeah perhaps. What are your stats/location if you don’t mind?
If you’re in NorCal you might have a better chance, it seems to work that way. My counselor said I have a better chance at Berkeley and UCLA…although UCLA didn’t work out that way. :/

@ sliver of silver I don’t think everyone’s getting a call. That’s thousands of students to try to contact.
@ figuresk8ting I had a 4.3 UC GPA and a 2130 SAT. My SATIIs were Physics (740) and USH (710) but I applied for engineering and didn’t know I should have sent my math 2 score (which was low though). Not as good as your stats lol

Oh well my ACT might have been 31 (about a 2100) but my SAT was 1910, so not that much better thank yours.
And I ended up having to send a 630 math score. It was a bit embarrassing, especially since I took calculus without major difficulty. Not sure what went wrong… :/

And I’m sure ELC will help. I guess I’m not so concerned about getting in as much as I’m just impatient about finding out. I already got my first rejection letter so it won’t be too surprising at this point -_-
