I started some hopefuly helpful threads over there.

My S got in but no $ other than loan assistance. I wondered how common this is that no help is offered? Obviously not totally a surprise based on income/assets but thought they may give some additional incentive even if real minor. Is any merit $ or tuition reduction possible at this point? Knowing that May 1 will be here soon, I just wondered what the chances of anything changing here or is it a take it or leave it deal at this point? At this time, just trying to compare the alternatives (state school with aid). My S really wants to go to Wash U but it’s a tough call at this point and will require a lot more loan help than we initially thought. Thanks for any insight.

My son was offered $10,700 a year (in addition to loans), which was a big surprise. slamjammer, it can’t hurt to call and ask if your son can get some money!

So now to the real question…how far can my grades fall this semester? ^.^

@slamjammer: FA stats for Wash U are available at various web sites. Here’s one:
[Washington U. - Cost & Financial Aid](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

The site suggests that about 38% of freshmen are deemed to need financial aid. The other 62% do not need aid in the eyes of WashU or did not apply for aid.

My guess is that if your EFC is $50,000 or above, you will get no offer of aid.

Anyways you wondered how common it is to not get aid. It is about 62% common.

I’m curious to know how exclusive this is. I applied and was accepted to Olin and I received an email yesterday that said:

It is my pleasure to invite you and your parents to a Dean’s Reception, which will be held at my home from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010. Several of our faculty, staff and current students will be on hand to welcome you. Olin will pay for each student’s round-trip airfare to visit our campus for the Dean’s Reception.

Any body else get this?

[How WUSTL Compares | Facts | Washington University in St. Louis](<a href=“University Facts - Washington University in St. Louis”>University Facts - Washington University in St. Louis)

this is really cool, check it out

Thanks for sharing, Feliz.
It might be useful for students who are comparing two institutions. It was helpful when I was deciding between UC Berkeley, WashU, and Cornell.

Okay forgot if I told this thread,

but if you want to get an insider’s look at WashU

go to Facebook and look for the “WashU Bear Buddies 2009-2010” **Group. **

You’ll have to request to join only because it contains a list of WashU students with their majors, extracurricular involvements, and the interior of the dorms/ their rooms. These students are volunteers who would love to help answer your questions.

Fellow CCer jemarcus started the group. It is a wonderful resource for you prospective freshmen, so don’t miss out on this chance to learn more about this great university!

P.S. I’m a volunteer also. Not paid to do this.
PPS. Totally love WashU.
