ahhh, I did the same thing! Do you happen to know how much $$ they give for that?

^^^ My Multicultural Weekend invite was a separate insert from the Spring Preview. So they must also be paying for some to come to Spring Preview who weren’t invited to the multicultural event, … certainly not ALL? That would be a lot of $$!

Yeah I got the Spring Preview with the airfare paid for, but I wasn’t invited to the multicultural event. I’m Caucasian so that makes sense lol

@collegehappy I think they’re similar selectivity-wise - - both around 20%
my SAT was 2160 (aka not high…), GPA 3.85 unweighted, and from a college prep school. SAT II’s: 800, 770, 760.
Asian, female. And I think my essays were pretty good.

I’m still kinda bummed…UCLA was my top choice. WashU’s great tho, and I’m feeling really lucky that I got accepted.

aznjunior, that was a jerky thing to say. There are a lot of very smart, hard working kids here who are thrilled to be admitted to Wash U. Take your pompous attitude and go cry over a boring place like…I won’t even say because that would be about as rude as you’ve been. Dig yourself.

I feel so lucky too! My SATI was 2060 (crashed in writing section) and I still got accepted (although I got 2400 in SATII which I think might help a little bit)! I just can’t believe it!

I can’t believe they are going to cover my airfare! WashU is quickly becoming one of my top choices. I wasn’t expecting an admissions decision this week, and the acceptance really made my week.

From the letter in the mail they only let in 1500 out of 25000 applicants - thats 6%!!

I can’t wait to go visit, I’ve heard that its beautiful.

The campus is gorgeous. I have often compared it to a fairy-tale setting.

Yeah,my SAT’s scores were only a 1900 which is low for Washu…but my Recs and Essay and GPA(Competitive High school) were outstanding and I had a diverse list of EC’s and I showed much interest…Washu has always been in my top choices ever since I visited it

I got my acceptance packet just a couple hours ago! And I couldn’t be more thrilled! I originally applied to WUSTL because of its high med school rankings, but I knew very little about it. After being accepted and doing a little more research, I am falling more in love with it every second. I will be attending Multicultural Weekend and I can’t wait to see the campus! It very well might seal the deal for me!

I got accepted too! Woot woot!

Ahhh congrats GrandeFinale89 and everyone else! I hope one day to be in your shoes (a WashU acceptee)!!!

This whole will-they-pay-for-you-to-visit or not thing seems weird. I live far away, in an affluent zipcode and have not yet visited. I got the thing telling me i can visit whenever and they will pay for the plane ticket. What does this mean?

It means that they will pay for you to visit. I repeat - it is NOT an income thing. If it were, they’d have invite many students and have them apply for travel grants.

That’s not what the letter says. The letter says that there were 25,000 applicants for 1500 spots. I don’t know what the yield for WashU is (numbers seem to include waitlisted students), but they have to accept more students than there are spots. Last year they accepted just over 5100 students. If they accept the same number this year, the acceptance rate will be just over 20%.

Ok, I guess I didn’t really understand what the letter meant. Can you explain it to me - what does it mean that 25,00 applied to 1,500 “spots” if they let in about 5,100?

It means that to get a class of 1500 they need to accept more than that number. Some accepted students will not chose to attend, and therefore they need to admit more than the number that they want to matriculate. If 5000 (just an example) are admitted through early decision, regular admission and off the wait list to get a class of 1500, it means 3500 chose to go to another school. That would mean 20% of applicants were admitted to get their final number of 1500. If you crunch the numbers more, 6% of applicants will attend, but they might need to admit 20% to get that 6%. That’s the “yield” of the admissions pool.
Having said that, my son was one of the admitted, and we are thrilled! It is quite an honor to get this admission, and you should be very proud, whether or not this is your final choice of school, or not. And the visit paid for by the school is an extra nice surprise. Congratulations to all those admitted. And to those on the wait list, remember, some of the accepted (about 14% in this example) might choose other places, so don’t loose hope.

accepted! i’m pumped but still waiting to hear back from the ivies. i’ve heard the programs i want to go into (biology - ecology/evoluntionary bio) are among the best for undergrad in the country, if not the very best. but i’m from the midwest and kind of want to expand my horizons and st. louis would be in my comfort zone…idk, i’m sure i could get over that. i’m going to the visit next weekend to interview for danforth…i hope i see a lot of you there! (especially future danforth scholars, hopefully?)
it’s an exciting time to be a senior! :-)

Congrats again guys. If you have questions, go to the WUSTL 2014 subforums-- I’ll be reading posts there to answer questions. [WUSTL 2014 - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/wustl-2014/)

Also, there seems to be a lot of premeds, so I started a WashU Premed Q&A over there.

Please feel free to PM me with any more questions.
