Accepting a college and then changing your mind...

A brief summary of my situation: I've been given an offer to study in the UK, but it's conditional on my obtaining 5's on my APs. So, I am going to accept an offer from a school in the US for a fallback. I was wondering, if I do meet my offer, what would be the proper procedure to inform the US school that I won't be attending. Of course I understand that I will lose the deposit, but what should I actually do? By accepting an offer from a college, am I entering a legally binding contract? If so, what would be the point of the deposit in the first place?

Thank you...

You will need to contact the office of admission by phone to inform the college of your non-attendance. That is the basic procedure for those who are admitted off of a waitlist from a different university.

Oh thank you. That’s very helpful. :)
