UMich awarded me a scholarship, but they want me to accept or deny it by March 3. If I choose to attend UM, then I'd like to accept it. But, I haven't enrolled in the school yet, and I won't be able to make a final decision until after March 3. Is it still all right to accept the scholarship if I'm not sure I will end up using it? Is there something else I should do or someone I should contact about this?

Mind sharing what type of scholarship awarded? Are you in-state or out-of-state? Thanks.

in-state. it’s a based-on-geographic-residence (what part of michigan you’re from) scholarship.

Were you admitted to LSA?

Call the scholarship office and ask them. Our son had the same issue - they (engineering) wanted to know by end of February but he hasn’t made a decision yet. He was told he could accept the scholarship now, and if he ends up not going to U of M, just call them and let them know right away so they can award the $ to someone else. The other option was to wait to accept it - that was also okay. We thought it better to accept it now, just in case.

I had the same thing happen to me with an engineering scholarship. I sent a letter to the scholarship contact and they extended my decision date to May 1st (when I had to choose if I was going to Michigan anyway). Just send them a note or email and they should generally be flexible. Being offered a scholarship through the University means that they want you to attend, and are willing to invest in your education, so they will work with you.

My daughter also had the same situation. She called and was told she would have until May 1st. So just make sure you call and it will be fine.
