So my sons been accepted to TCU, U of A, Boise, Cal State San Marcos, and Cal Poly SLO decisions are still “pending” for SDSU, UCLA, UCSB, USC, Stanford, Cal Lutheran. So housing opens on March 27th for CalPoly Slo which is his preferred school over San Marcos. (can’t afford the out of state ones) but housing is very important because he needs to live on campus so we want to put in for housing right away but in order to get into that system he’s got to accept admission. If it pulls his deposit from financial aid will this effect any pending decisions ? Will other colleges see that he’s accepted into another CA college? It says deposits fully refundable for housing but I can’t tell if there’s any other deposit that wouldn’t be refundable.
He would rather attend 4 or 5 out of 6 of the pending colleges over Cal Poly SLO. But no decisions of course, so we are left to wonder. Because he’s a transfer it says we could have to wait until may 1st to be notified by UCLA or use or Stanford. He’s within gpa range at all schools for transfers, 3.60 with aa-t grade bump he’s about 3.7 with tons of clubs and activities and honor roll PTK in college. So he’s got a shot at making it into any others…his major isn’t too competitive -History. But who knows. Can we accept at cal poly then cancel, then accept at next best then cancel, etc or is this a financial aid nightmare or what?
contact CP on mon.
you SHOULD be able to make a housing deposit there WITHOUT committing to going there.
you should ONLY make one deposit, and that should be at the college he is committed to going to.
It says you can’t apply for housing unless you accept admission in several places.
then wait until your DS decides where he is going to college.
CP housing deposit policy is not the norm for most colleges, but it is what it is.
Good luck
But if he doesnt get into any of the other colleges, then there’s no housing available to him then he’s basically left stranded. Living on campus is a must for him.
then like I said previously, call CP. Tell them your situation and that their requirement to making an enrollment commitment via a housing deposit is an outlier among colleges and they need to make an exception in your case.
I think it’s against the rules for colleges to require a deposit before May 1st. Tying housing to an admissions deposit is a sneaky way to get around that and it’s just wrong. I’d make the deposit. If your son decides to attend another college, withdraw his acceptance to the first college and deposit at the second one.
Transfer (and grad school) admission cut-off dates are different from freshman dates. This means that yes, you accept this admission now, and sign up for housing. If a better offer comes along later, then you can cancel the first one and accept the later one.
The other colleges have no way to know where he has accepted admission unless he tells them. And frankly, why would he do that?
MY BAD!
I did NOT see that this post was for a transfer student! [I’ve got bronchitis and am not as clear headed as I usually am, lol. ]
so go ahead and signup for CP housing NOW!
