Just saw on my bursar account $50.00. It seems that it is saying I owe $50 for access card. Thought IU put that on access card? Why is it showing up on my bursar account?

thanks

It’s a required $50 that IU put on your campus access card. Now you get to pay for it.

Wish I knew that ahead of time because I had already put money on my access card

Yankees, I believe that $50 came from your meal plan charges (which of course you do pay for). They will put $50 per semester. I am not sure if you can get it refunded at the end not the year but presumably you could use it up by next May. Perhaps it is their effort to make sure there are funds for the kids to do laundry, making the residence halls a more pleasant place to live. ;)

Looks like this is a new thing this year, and it was not communicated well. It was reported on the RPS website at [IU:RPS - New Program](http://www.rps.indiana.edu/100onCampusAccess.cfml) but they failed to mention two things:

So expect another $50 charge on your bursar account next semester as well. Hopefully it will be communicated better next year.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I thought this $50 was already included in what we paid for the meal plan, and didn’t realize this was an extra charge we were going to get.

Why didn’t they just put this in the bill we got before the semester started?

When do I have to pay the $50? I guess I will have to make sure I check my bursar account more often so I know if I owe money. I dont want money owed to prevent me from registering for classes

The bill for your bursar account is always due on the 10th of the month. The $50 charge didn’t show up on the bill due on 9/10, so it will be due on 10/10. You should get an email every time there is a new statement (once a month), but not every time a new charge is added to your account. At least this is my experience as a parent set up on QuikPAY.
