Access to kitchens?

As someone who really enjoys baking and cooking, I was wondering if I'd have any access to a kitchen (or even just an oven) while I was at UVA. I'll be in Alderman dorms next year, if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

Well if you make friends with an upperclassman I'm sure they won't mind you cooking for them in exchange for using their oven! (Some?) Upperclass dorms have kitchens (definitely Brown, IRC, Lambeth). Just join some clubs, mention your love of baking to your new upperclassmen friends, and I'm sure they'd be thrilled to have you over some time, and if they have a car they'll proly take you shopping so you don't have to lug stuff around on the bus.

Are there cooking clubs ? that you can get hooked up with free food at? jk well no.

ethnic clubs will usually have food events throughout the year.

kmcdowell - you won't have any direct access to a kitchen in your dorm so you'll have to borrow someone else's unfortunately.

Actually, a friend of mine tried to start a cooking club this past year. There is definitely interest, he was just too lazy to put the club together...and stay off of academic probation.

Any work-study in kitchens?

My main reason for wanting to cook is that they don't have the dishes I want. :o I plan to submit a recipe, and offer to work in the kitchens (if it's possible) just to demonstrate how to make it.

Everything the dining halls make is mass produced... Trust me, if they listened to the students, they'd stop putting catfish pizza on the menu (...I swear we've seen it multiple times in Newcomb).

if you are lucky enough to be assigned to kellog (the new ohill dorm) or know people that live there, there will be a kitchen that is open to all residents

Hey, I like fish. :) Don't like pizza though, so catfish pizza probably not the best dish for me.

Galoisien, how can you know that you don't like any of the dishes? They have so many to choose from, and it looks like they always have something different to try - when I was there for orientation i had catfish with mango and rice and african flatbread, and they were both really nice. Try new stuff! (Not that I'm discouraging suggesting recipes, just that what's there is really nice too, for college food.)
