if i went to the national spelling bee and placed in the top 10 between the years of 6-8th grade, can i put that on my college resume because it’s on a national scale ? or am i only allowed to put things that i have accomplished in the past 4 years. because i accomplished quite a bit on the national scale during my middle school years… mathcounts, spelling bee, and geo bee

This discussion has been hashed and rehashed here, even quite recently (or so I recall – searching for it now and don’t remember what the thread was called). The consensus seems to be that something like the National Spelling Bee, for which there isn’t much of a high school equivalent, probably deserves a mention on your app. But if you haven’t done anything of note since middle school, that doesn’t look good either; so balance how much emphasis you place on those younger years. The Common App doesn’t even give you a choice to put middle school things on it. Your choices are 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th. In that case you’re going to have to shoehorn it in somewhere else in the app.
You don’t report EC and awards from before 9th grade. If there is anything you think it is worth mentioning, you may put it in the “additional information” box at the end after supplement. Nevertheless, I don’t see your case worth mentioning.
Mention it in the Additional Info section. That’s a big accomplishment. My D made it to state in the 8th grade in the geography bee and we didn’t mention that, but I feel like making top 10 at the national spelling bee is very special.
If you won the National Bee, I’d put it on there. Not so sure about First Runner-up.
