I am currently a freshmen at the University of mississippi. I am currently in the accounting school here. I was wondering what my odds of transfering into the accounting program at Illinois. I was previously accepted into there department of general studie out of highschool. I have a 3.84 GPA currently and expect straight A’s in the spring. I hope to enroll in the fall if possible. What are my chances?
GPA: 3.84
Hours by the end of the year: 31
ACT: 27
Your chances are excellent because you were previously accepted. Many schools retain your application for a couple of years for this exact reason. Students change their mind and wish to attend a school they were previously accepted to. One thing you should NOT count on is any scholarship money they offered you. That ship sailed away when you told that school you did not want them. You should be good to go.
My biggest concern is that I was accepted into General Studies, not Accounting, which is much more difficult to get into to.
Oh. I still think your a strong candidate. Many schools post on the websites what it takes to transfer into the program from another major at that same university because many change majors. I have yet to see one over what you have (3.84 GPA).
Hopefully someone with direct knowledge can chime in soon for you.
Good luck.
Accounting is in the College of Business. They take VERY few transfer students-- including within the university.
Have you looked at the requirements and classes to transfer? Here is the link: http://admissions.illinois.edu/Apply/Transfer/TransferRequirementsDirectory
Also, unfortunately, your ACT score would have put you just below the middle 50% for the 2016 admitted student profile for the College of Business. That is probably why you were offered DGS. Here is link: https://admissions.illinois.edu/Apply/Freshman/profile
Also, have you considered your financial status? University of Miss may have offered you merit scholarship. & UIUC is known for not giving out much $
Looks like @Cdr2019 posted about being accepted as a transfer student. Don’t know anything else about them.
I did, but I’m in state and am transferring in as a Junior; based on what I read here I didn’t think I had much to offer in the way of advice. I don’t know that I would’ve been able to pull off a sophomore transfer from out of state, even with my GPA (4.0). I think the fact that I planned out my classes to cater to UIUC specifically helped as well as the fact that I worked throughout my stint in CC.
I have a question… so I’m attending UIUC in Division of General Studies, and I am planning to transfer to the college of business. Do you know if they still look at ACT scores? @Cdr2019
