Accounting And Information Systems *NEED YOUR HELP*

Cal State Fullerton offers a joint emphasis program in Accounting and Information Systems. My main goal is to major in accounting but I do have interests in computers. Will this give me flexibility in both fields? Or should I stick to strictly accounting?

The trade-off is that I take two less accounting courses in exchange for 5 Information System courses.

Will accounting firms go strictly for those who major strictly in accounting? or do they recognize joint concentrations?

My current GPA is 3.5
School has AACSB accreditation.

Please provide your feedback! Thank You!

I have mentioned this is a couple other threads, but that combination sets you up perfectly for a Risk/ITRS position in the Big 4. Basically, you can do audit support, run SAS 70 reports, and the like in those type of positions. In blends and understanding of systems and internal controls, utilizing the academic program provided to you through the aforementioned degree.

You can get a job in the Big Four’s advisory division acting as a mix between an auditor and a consultant, in essence. The accounting part is the vital piece, with the systems part being a fantastic supporting area that complements the accounting extremely well.

Goose7856, thanks for your response. I was concerned that if I did the joint emphasis, the Big 4 or other firms in the local area wouldn’t consider me for positions that solely required an accounting degree. I want the ability to be flexible in being able to apply for a position that involved either strictly accounting, strictly information systems, or a mixture of both.

The Big four will almost always want you to be able to sit for the CPA exam, so as long as you meet those requirements and have the necessary background the position, you should be good to go.

You could probably do some IT consulting as well.

Its still an accounting degree. That’s what is great about it is you can market yourself as an accountant with technical skills.

AIM is a ****ing awesome degree. Great for computers and accounting or just accounting by itself
