I am currently a sophomore in high school, and I know that this is really far off but I was wondering which major would be better for me. I am currently in precalc and I havent had many problems with math my whole life. It has just come very easy to me. I plan on taking AP calc ab junior year and Ap calc bc senior year. I will take honors chem next year and ap physics senior year. I am only going to take a few business classes in high school, mainly because you dont get much out of them at my school... So I was wondering which major/career is better for me? I know that both are very lucrative careers and engineering is a little bit harder than accounting in college. But is engineering really that much harder? and will I have any fun working as a CPA?

Civil engineering does not pay much as electrical, nuclear, and chemical engineering do. Starting salaries for CE are usually $40K-$50k which is pretty low. Most CE jobs are public/government-based and most civil engineers have experienced significant lay-offs in the recent years due to the recession. Accounting is much more stable, easier to get into, and starting salaries for it average from $60k-$80K…$75K-$90K is you land yourself at a big accounting firm like KGB. Being a CPA is pretty fun because you get to meet a lot of different people. My friend’s dad who is a CE just stays in an office - not that being a CPA usually doesn’t entail, but at least with being a CPA, you will have to deal with an assortment of people who need to get their accounting shiz done (this is if you work as an independent CPA w/o firm).

I wouldn’t base your decision from my anecdote, however, I’ve learned one thing in my collegiate accounting class: I don’t want to be an accountant! I highly doubt you could find any enjoyment working as a CPA!

s1tuation: do yo just think its boring or do you just not like math?
