Which major would land me a better job in the future?
I also heard people saying finance at UF won't get you anywhere. Is that true?

thats not true. we have an well ranked finance program. accountants tend to make more wherever you go to school, but finance and accounting are two very different animals. DO NOT make a decision based on which will land you the higher paying job, especially since both will land you plenty of money.

In this economic climate, I’d go with the safer bet, accounting.

My perception is that finance is a riskier bet, but has more potential upside. Accounting it’s easier to be upper middle class and live comfortably. I don’t know of any multimillionaire accountants.

can’t he just decide to double major?

No, double major is not an option.

Zaersz, you make not know any multimillionaire accountants but with an accounting degree, you can do so much. You learn almost every aspect of business. For example, the owner of the Miami Dolphins studied accounting (he even went to UF for 2 years) but as you can tell, he is obvs. not living his life as an accountant. With an accounting degree you could become a CPA, investment banker, entrepreneur, anything. I guess it really just depends on where you see yourself in the future. You have many options to chose from once you graduate. Thats why I chose accounting over finance and I guess thats also why people say its “safe”.

I suppose that’s true of any degree though. I wasn’t intending to belittle accounting in any way, it just doesn’t seem as fast and loose and finance. I personally respect people pursuing accounting more then people pursuing finance, but that’s just my own personal biases.

Accounting for sure.

@gators123: accounting is a much more difficult major at UF. However, in order to even enter the Fisher School of Accounting, you need at least a B in Intro to Financial Acg. It’s not outlandishly difficult, but you’ll definitely have your work cut out for you.

However, I should mention that, as a finance major, you’ll still be required to take Intro. The difference is that you won’t need to pull a B.

I have all A’s so far going into my Junior year as an Economics major. The two exceptions to that are Calculus (C+…choked on the final) and Financial Acg (B…very difficult course that will require an obnoxious amount of attention and focus from beginning to end)

As for a more specific answer to your original question, Accounting is a more valued degree (especially from the FSOA
