Accounting Prep

Hello All.

I have been searching for a while for the answer but I cant seem to find it here or anywhere else. I am transfering my major from Liberal Arts to Accounting this coming Fall. I had to take 1.5 years off of school and work because I could not afford it. I am now in a financial position where I can pay my way.

The Issue is that I have not taken a math class since my junior year of high school besides a statistics class (criminal justice) that analized criminal data. I was always able to excel in math at a younger age but ever since my monotone math teacher in my junior year of HS I have not taken anything else (including calculus). I am not a math-o-phobe but am just concerned with struggling in the initial classes.

I would like to know of any recommendations for courses and books I can read to freshen up in my math skills before the fall semester. There are endless courses you can take online (videos) on just about any math subject. Can anyone currently in Accounting tell me what were the most beneficial math skills to you pre-Accounting?

Background - I am 23 years old and am currently a manager for the finance department at a casino (I guess I did things a little backwards), but we don't really use complex math. Just a lot of +,-,and %'s.

I’ve only done the first two accounting courses, but I never had to do anything other than add, multiply, subtract, or divide.

About three threads down, there’s a thread titled ‘everything you ever wanted to know about accounting’. Reading that will most likely do you some good.
