My daughter is considering going into accounting. She is trying to decide between Rider and TCNJ. She likes the atmosphere and the campus of TCNJ but she thinks the business program at Rider might be better. Any insight would be appreciated.

I don’t know anything about the business or accounting program at either school. But I know there is an enormous difference in the quality of the students. The averages for each category are about 100 points different, and the 75th percentile for SAT scores at Rider is essentially the 25th percentile at TCNJ. That’s going to have an enormous effect on what is taught and how it is taught, as well as on the learning that goes on outside the classroom and the confidence that employers/grad schools have in the transcript and diploma. If your daughter likes the atmosphere of TCNJ better, and someone there teaches what she wants to study, and she can get admitted, it would take a lot to convince me that Rider was a better choice on academic grounds.

TCNJ accting program is really good. Rider has had a good rep in that area too but TCNJ seems to be better with better placement in Big 4 firms and a high CPA pass rate.
