Accounting Schools

I'm interested in going to in accounting, I'd like to attend a UC school, any suggestions of which school and which program to follow?
I want to work towards CPA requirements if that is possible, and then in the future I want to work somewhere in finance potentially, but I do want to eventually go back to school for a Master's. Please list all schools that you think'll fit, and give good reasoning why.
By the way job placement is very important to me upon completion of undergrad.

The only UC Business program with Accounting that I have researched is UC Berkeley with the Haas School of Business. The school is highly ranked and well known at least throughout the state. So, if I could choose ANY UC business program with Accounting, I’d choose UCB. However, here are some suggestions when thinking about accounting:

 1. The type of program all depends on your personal preferences because accounting is pretty much taught the same no matter which school you go to especially if that program is AACSB accredited ( [AACSB Business and Accounting Accreditation](Search Accredited Schools | AACSB) ). I have said before that accounting just involves a lot of rules memorization like most lower math (non-theoretical) and even like law. A student from one school isn’t taught a formula ‘better’ than a student from another school. They get taught the same exact formulas and rules based on a standardization (also called GAP, or General Accounting Principles). Any difference in business programs will be found in the amount of core reqs and how ‘well rounded’ a business student the curriculum produces (more general business classes vs more major classes).

Every respectable accounting program SHOULD be prepping a student for the CPA exams. Of course the programs can’t do everything (it will be up to the student to actually gain any applicable accounting exp), but the school itself should be doing all it can within the program to help these reqs along. Unless you obtain 150 (in CA at least) undergrad credits (about 120 should get you a degree), then yes, you will need a masters (MBA, or MAcc).

As far as job placement, while accounting fields have historically been seen as solid grounds for employment, this will still require some effort as far as networking and so forth for the big name jobs like the Big 4, or multi/international companies. I like to view the school’s business or accounting dept websites and see if they show any career support in their programs (like annual job fairs just for accounting majors and honor societies). I’d even email professors and ask them how they may view that topic of their students, or even local alumni chapters if the school has one.

Hope all that helps.

Accounting is generally not offered by the UCs. If your goal is to be a CPA you are more likely to find the programs you are looking for at the California State Universities (CSUs).

Many UCs offer accounting curriculum that meet or at least very close to meet the 24 semester unit(36 quarter units) of current CPA requirement (although it will change to new requirement on 1/1/2014).

UCB - Business Admin major
UCLA - Business Econ major with Acct minor
UCSB - Econ & Acct major
UCI - Business Admin w/ Acct concentration
UCSD - acct minor
and UCR, I believe.

Hi there, i am also looking for some good universities for accounting not necessarily UC’s but CSUs. The universities which have good placements and helping in CPA courses.
