Acoustics

Hi, I'm planning on pursuing grad work in acoustics (musical acoustics as well as engineering acoustics) I was wondering whether engineering mechanics or mechanical engineering would better help me prepare for my graduate work? I've conducted studies since high school on various subjects of acoustics and i hope to continue throughout college. Any suggestions? benefits of both or either? disadvantages? What about physics as a major? I have a great interest in all of these but acoustics is truly my passion.

I would suggest mechanics. It will in most cases let you head that direction more decisively without forcing you to learn machine design and other unrelated ME topics.

Alright thanks for the info, i was leaning towards mechanics but i also love computer aided design (Mastercam and Solid Works) i think it might be more of a hobby though, and i think i already know more then what would be taught in the college introductory classes anyway
