I hope to study acoustics in graduate school. I always thought Mechanical engineering would be the feild to major in but recently i've been thining about Engineering Mechanics, or Physics. Does anybody have any suggestions? Or any undergrad program i didn't list?

At the moment i am leading towards engineering mechanics. Pros and Cons? I don't really know the difference between it and mechanical engineering except that ME seems more broad. Am i right?

The beauty of acoustics being a heavily interdisciplinary field is that you can major in a multitude of things and still get into top grad schools. I know of people from engineering, physics, math, theatre sound, communication, etc. that have had success in grad school. It all depends what you want to do in grad school; there are many subsets of acoustics.

Any of those majors should give you enough background to study acoustics in graduate school. Make sure you take lots of math courses, and take some programming courses as well.

Rather than looking at what major to pursue, look for research on the topic that interests you and then go after the specific advisors regardless of their department. This is grad school, after all, so the “major” is much less important than your actual research and advisor.
