ACT=29 & Need Engineering School Recomendations

I am a Junior and just received my ACT results (29). I would like to study Mechanical Engineering at the strongest program I can get in to. I have taken 6 AP courses (Project Lead the Way) and 6 semester of Honors Math. My GPA: 3.74/4 weighted & 3.45/4 non-weighted. I rank 109/570 at a very competitive suburban (Chicago area)high school and a member of the National Honor Society. I play varsity Baseball & Golf and have worked as an Honor Caddy for 4 yrs. If $ is not an issue, what University offers the strongest Mechanical Engineering program that I would likely get in to?

You would be a good match for Purdue.

How about U of Iowa, Iowa State, or Bradley in addition to Purdue? Illinois may be a reach, depending on your ACT subscores, but it might still be worthwhile to apply. In Illinois, NIU, UIC, and SIU (both Carbondale and Edwardsville) have engineering programs, if you need an in-state public school for a financial safety.

Rose-Hulman

+1 for Purdue

I would also look into Michigan State and VA Tech.

Cal Poly SLO

+1 Cal Poly

Wisconsin Madison would be a match/slight reach. And instead of some dreary engineering school you get all the fun a top Big Ten school with an excellent but not huge engineering school.

My Mom would love Rose-Hulman. 1800 students, close to Chicago, and few women, I’m not going to be able to mention it to the family. I think 4,000 students is about the smallest I would consider. I wouldn’t mind a more favorable men/women ratio ;>) UW-Madison, Bradley & Perdue are all on my list. Cal Poly SLO is intriguing, I hadn’t looked at that one………Time to research.

University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Purdue, Georgia Tech
