ACT 2nd attempt low science score but same composite as last time: Repeat ACT or Not?

Hi

My dd had 34 Composite 1st attempt ( E 35, M 33, R 34, S 35) . She took it again and the scores are 34 Composite ( E 35, M 35, R 36, S 29) . She is aiming for top schools where the composite needs to be 35 or 36. Any suggestions?

There are no top schools where her composite needs to be 35 or 36…maybe one could make that case for Cal Tech or MIT. Her superscored composite is 35 right now (35, 35, 36, 35)…not all schools superscore but some do, so check her list.

I would not take the ACT any more and focus on other aspects of her application. It’s difficult to increase scores when they are already so high.

Probably should consider a couple of subject tests, including Math 2…but again depends on the schools on her list.

Good luck.

Thank you. She is aiming for the ivy’s as well (reach). I know columbia superscores but the others i don’t know.

Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Penn superscore, iirc. Yale requires all but says they “focus” on the individual high scores, so effectively superscore.

Brown says they “consider the highest scores submitted for each section; however, we do not calculate a super scored ACT Composite score.” Which is meaningless, IMO - they superscore.

Side note - Harvard appears to superscore the SAT but not the ACT - “ highest test scores in each section across test dates for the SAT and your strongest sitting for the ACT.”

It’s probably a good idea to understand the testing policies of schools where she is think of applying in order to make decisions about testing.
