Hi, daughter got a 30 on ACT with writing the first time (31 E, 28 M, 35 R, 25 S). The state of Colorado has a mandated ACT in April, stupidly without writing. She got a 31 this time, with a 36 in English, her intended major. Bummer that certain schools will not even accept that! SAT is a different story, got a 1760 the first time, with a bad math score. Did much better in June, with a 2020. (710 W, 630 M and 680 R).
As she seems to do better in the ACT, question is, should she retake it with writing again, hoping to get that awesome English score and improve on the 30? Or is the difference between 30 and 31 pretty negligible? Looking at schools such as GWU, BU, BC, Northwestern (reach). thanks for any imput

An ACT score of 30 is pretty good–about average for those who get in. I think it’s a bit below average compared to those who get into Northwestern, but a score of 30 is still in the mid-50%. I think the difference between 30 and 31 is negligible. I don’t think she should retake. I got my information by searching the universities on [College Search - Find colleges and universities by major, location, type, more.](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board) and going to the SAT/AP tab.

thanks for the info…you mean looking at the SAT/ACT tab within a given college, right?

Yes. There’s a SAT/AP/CLEP tab for each college profile.
